HLM -Chapter 1400 Moving In

Happy Little Mayor 6 min read 1400 of 1443 4

In just two days, the treehouse was roughly completed.

Now, among the tall kauri pines, a continuous network of treehouses had been established.

The completed treehouse had ten rooms in total—bedrooms, a dining room, a living room, a prayer room, and, of course, an observation balcony.

The observation deck was at the highest point, on the roof of one section of the house. Wang Bo leaned over the railing, looking out. The deck faced south, and beyond the castle walls, the town of Sunset Falls stretched into view.

Looking west, the slanting rays of the setting sun painted the clouds red.

Returning wild birds flapped their wings in flocks across the sky. A few beautiful wooden pigeons landed on the kauri pine branches, preening their green feathers.

Wang Bo watched them. Noticing him, the pigeons turned, staring with their tiny black eyes, gave a couple of soft coos, and then returned to preening.

Looking east, farms, vegetable gardens, and livestock pens lay below. The mountains behind carried the deep hues of autumn; some leaves were stirred by the wind, drifting down like butterflies.

To the west, there was not only the sunset but also a lake.

Wang Bo picked up a telescope. The expansive lake shimmered in the golden sunset. A family of black cranes glided elegantly in the air, while ospreys on the lake watched them intently, eyes full of longing.

The treehouse was built in a primitive style—a pile of wooden boards and steel panels. Wang Bo didn’t plan to decorate it; this was the children’s secret wilderness paradise, and the raw jungle feel added to its sense of mystery.

Inside, some furniture had already been set up: small beds, little stools, and small tables. On the observation deck, there were loungers and rocking chairs.

Charlie walked over and sat in a rocking chair, swaying gently. He looked at the view outside and, after a few minutes, said, “This treehouse is really nice. I think this is enjoyable.”

Wang Bo said, “Of course. If I’d had a cabin like this when I was young, I wouldn’t have gone anywhere. I would have just stayed here.”

Charlie laughed. “I had a treehouse as a kid, but you know… haha, it was the kind where you just tie some planks to a tree, put a plastic sheet over it to block wind and rain, and that was it.”

Wang Bo looked envious. “What was it like?”

Charlie shrugged. “It was fun, but every time I went up, I had to clean it. Tons of bird droppings, man. Tons of bird droppings!”

Hearing this, Wang Bo glanced at the pigeons curiously inspecting the treehouse and had a bad premonition. “Shit… we have a lot of birds here too!”

Charlie said, “Exactly. So I’m giving you a heads-up. Don’t let the treehouse sit empty, or soon you’ll find it’s become a paradise for birds.”

But that wouldn’t be a problem. The treehouse wouldn’t stay empty. At night, Dale packed up bedding and pillows, slung on her small backpack, and came to stay in the treehouse.

Wang Bo said, “The treehouse isn’t completely finished yet. Dale, we still need to build a spiral staircase around the trunk, otherwise how will we get up and down?”

Dale said, “No problem. But now there’s an elevator, so going up and down is easy.”

Wang Bo said, “The weather’s turning cooler. It’ll be colder up in the trees, and the wind will be strong at night. We’re all staying here, and you’re a bit far away. Once we move into the villa, you can live in the treehouse, okay?”

Dale stubbornly shook her head. “No. I’ve already invited Xiaosi, Ron, and Anliya. We’re going to live together.”

“What?!” Wang Bo’s eyes went wide.

Dale looked at him, puzzled by his overreaction. “Living together. I told Anliya and the others I have a beautiful big treehouse. They’re all envious and willing to come stay.”

Eva walked over and put a backpack on the ground. “Alright, darling, don’t worry so much. You can’t stop Dale. This is her paradise.”

Dale nodded vigorously. “Yes, yes! This is my paradise! A green paradise, amazing!”

Wang Bo said, “Then how about moving in tomorrow night? Wait for Xiaosi and Ron, okay?”

Dale said, “They’re already waiting at the entrance. Look, Ron even called me earlier to hurry up!”

Wang Bo: “….”

Eva helped Dale arrange her things. Wang Bo thought for a moment, went back to the room, grabbed a box of unused condoms, and quietly asked Eva, “Do we need this?”

Eva shot him a glare. “They’re still kids, just over ten. It’s like in a school dormitory—they can even sleep in the same room. And this time, each has their own room.”

Wang Bo forced a smile. “I’m just worried something might happen.”

Eva said, “Send Zhuang Ding, the Queen, and the chubby cats over to accompany the kids. Also Little Meng. That way, there’s no need to worry about safety.”

After packing, Wang Bo brought the pets and drove up the mountain.

Four children were already waiting. Roselie’s younger brother Liola was among them, carrying a backpack, two small bags, and a large slingshot hanging from his chest.

“You’re joining the army?” Wang Bo teased.

The little boy proudly tapped his slingshot. “This is my weapon. Just as powerful as a gun. I’m a sharpshooter!”

Doctor Yi was also there, reminding them, “Don’t aim the slingshot at your friends. And cover yourselves at night. I prepared a small medical kit for Xiaosi. If anything feels wrong, tell me first, and I’ll show Xiaosi what to do. No acting on your own!”

“Relax, Dad. We’re not little kids anymore. We’re almost in middle school. And it’s not even cold right now. What’s there to worry about?”

Doctor Yi shrugged. “In front of us stands a group of young men.”

Wang Bo said, “It’s fine. Zhuang Ding and the Queen will stay. With my pets around, they’re safe.”

Inside the treehouse, the wiring was rough, but at least there was electricity. With the lights on at night, the treehouse looked quite nice.

Doctor Yi stood on the observation deck, looking toward the town, seeing the twinkling lights of countless homes. He was moved and said, “How about I stay tonight to accompany you? Honestly, this treehouse looks really good.”

Wang Bo also wanted him to stay. Having an adult there felt safer and more reliable.

But the children firmly drove them away: “Cats and dogs stay, you two leave!”

Wang Bo could only pat Zhuang Ding and the Queen on their heads. “Behave yourselves here. Each of you stay with a child. If anything happens, Little Meng comes to find me, got it?”

The pets nodded. Just like foster children, each little one took a pet and found a room.

Wang Bo and Doctor Yi left the treehouse, hearing cheers and excited screams from above.
