On the way, Wang Bo asked Zhong Dabao what he thought about the wedding.
Zhong Dabao chuckled, “If you don’t say it, I’ll have to. We want to hold the wedding at your place. Taotao said your Sunset Town is amazing, and there’s also that Flower Road Garden.”
Wang Bo replied, “Alright, go back and discuss it with your fiancée. Over here, I might organize a group wedding. Ask if she’s interested. As of now, there are at least seven or eight couples, and with you two, it might reach ten.”
“Perfect ten,” said Father Bo.
Wang Bo nodded. “Exactly.”
Zhong Dabao was excited. “Alright, I’ll ask Taotao.”
When they got home, Wang Bo’s parents first wanted to check on the boat. For fishermen, the house is just a place to rest; the boat is their lifeline.
Zhong Dabao had taken good care of the fishing boat. Wang Bo’s cousin and several friends from the village were working on it. When they saw him return, his cousin Wang Zheng smiled, “Yo, boss is back?”
Wang Bo looked at his cousin and noticed a big change, mainly in his spirit.
His cousin had lost half a palm due to a work injury, which had once made him very self-conscious; he used to always wear gloves or hide his hand in his sleeve. Now, he openly showed his hand, a bucket hooked over his wrist, his face glowing, and full of energy.
Wang Bo said, “You’re basically your own boss now. Bro, how’s the harvest these past two years?”
Wang Zheng happily replied, “Ah, the state is protecting the ocean now. The catch is better than the past couple of years. Plus, we have big boats, so we can go out for seafood. Life’s good.”
They squatted on the deck chatting, Wang Zheng chain-smoking and laughing heartily.
Finally, Wang Bo took the cigarette from him and tossed it into the sea. “Alright, bro, smoke less from now on. Life’s good, and a healthy body is key to enjoying it longer.”
“Can’t quit this one,” Wang Zheng laughed, shaking his head. “Your sister-in-law keeps telling me to quit, but what else is there to do at sea?”
Father Bo was also a heavy smoker but gradually changed after moving to Sunset Town.
After touring the boat, Wang Bo’s parents left. Wang Bo then took out a wedding invitation and handed it to his cousin and the uncles working on the boat. “Before the New Year, Eva and I are getting married. Come over for the feast.”
Wang Zheng was surprised. “You’re not making it big?”
Wang Bo smiled. “We’ll have a big wedding in New Zealand. We’ll fly you all there; you can make a trip abroad at the same time.”
Wang Zheng wiped seawater off his hands and took the invitation. “Great. Our whole family will be there.”
“This time, don’t bring gift money. Anyone who does won’t be allowed into the house,” Wang Bo said.
“How can that be…”
“How much would you give? You’ve earned money, but what about others? If you give too much, they might feel awkward. So this time, no gift money at all. I’m serious.”
After hearing the explanation, his uncle said, “Alright, then we’ll slip a hundred yuan into the envelope for a token of luck. Absolutely nothing more.”
Wang Bo nodded. “That’s fine too.”
After returning home, he started writing invitations at the table and delivering them one by one. His parents handled the relatives; he delivered to friends, like Song Zijun and some hotel owners in the county.
The most important was Song Zijun. He and Zhong Dabao went to the city; Song Zijun had a seaside villa, so they went straight there.
The servant opened the door. Song Zijun’s wife smiled, “When Jun learned you two were coming, he wanted to get some good seafood. He just went out for ingredients, please wait a moment.”
Indeed, in less than half an hour, Song Zijun, short and stout, appeared.
Seeing Wang Bo, he laughed heartily. “Xiao Wang, you’re here! Come in, come in. I just stepped out, sorry to keep you waiting.”
Wang Bo said, “Brother Jun, you’re too polite. We just arrived and were touring your villa. We haven’t even finished looking, and you’re back already.”
Song Zijun waved him off. “Touring my villa? I know you live in a castle in New Zealand and developed a villa area! You’re getting more impressive by the day.”
Wang Bo smiled wryly. “Impressive? Compared to your place, my developments are nothing—just big countryside houses.”
Song Zijun laughed again. “Xiao Wang, you know how to talk. Enough with the pleasantries. What’s exciting about my villa? Your farms and ranches are much more interesting.”
Hearing this, Wang Bo felt a spark.
He asked, “Brother Jun, have you ever thought about investing in overseas real estate?”
Song Zijun paused while pouring tea. “How would that work? My business has always been fishing and transportation. I have overseas business, but I haven’t considered real estate.”
Globally, real estate investment is hottest in China. Wealthy Chinese investors focus domestically to profit from fellow citizens.
Wang Bo introduced the ranches and farms in Oak City, showing detailed info on his computer. “I’ve bought all of these, planning to sell them to wealthy folks back home.”
Song Zijun hadn’t studied much but had keen business instincts. Upon hearing this, he asked immediately, “Sell to domestic tycoons? So this could become a hub for the wealthy?”
Wang Bo nodded. “Exactly. These farms and ranches are nice. Oak City is small, land is cheap, but scenery is great. Investing here, you can occasionally vacation or retire comfortably.”
Song Zijun considered, “How much roughly?”
Wang Bo said, “Different ranches and farms vary in price. If you’re interested, I can have a sales rep specializing in ranches contact you.”
Song Zijun said, “Alright, I’m very interested.”
For him, whether farm or ranch, the biggest value is networking. Once a circle of wealthy investors forms there, it would greatly benefit his business.
While drinking tea, Wang Bo handed Song Zijun the invitation, inviting him to the wedding after the Minor New Year festival. “I know Brother Jun might be busy. If you can’t make it, just come another time; I’ll save a seat for you.”
Song Zijun replied readily, “How can I miss my little brother’s wedding? I can cancel all other matters, no problem.”
In delivering an invitation, Wang Bo ended up selling a ranch. He was very pleased with the result and immediately called Su Dongdong to arrange for him to introduce the ranch to Song Zijun later.
Su Dongdong and the others had already decided to resign and work with Wang Bo. University teaching is comfortable, but without much research to do, lecturers don’t earn much.
Selling ranches and farms not only makes money but also builds connections. Once they understood the benefits, they made their decision.
