Wang Bo was preparing to welcome a few old classmates, but the first person to arrive was Oakley.
After two years of battles in the boxing world, Oakley, almost fully recovered, finally reached the expectations set for him. He had successfully dominated both the world light-heavyweight and heavyweight boxing scenes!
But just like when they first met, Oakley was still the same humble, calm, and well-built young Black man. Wang Bo had seen quite a few Black people in New Zealand, often jokingly grouped with the Maori as the “two problematic races” of the country.
Oakley was different. His humility and quiet nature made him seem like a devout believer.
This time, he had flown back on a private jet. Wang Bo drove to the airport to pick him up. Upon seeing him, Oakley smiled and said, “Mayor, you’re always too polite to me, coming personally to pick me up.”
“No, it’s not politeness. This is how you treat true friends. I couldn’t wait to see you, world champion,” Wang Bo laughed heartily.
Oakley shrugged. “I’m just an excellent boxer right now, not a world champion. Ali is still the world champion. Being a world champion isn’t about how many people you’ve knocked out—it’s about how many you’ve helped.”
Wang Bo patted his chest. “Even by that standard, you’re a world champion.”
Half of all of Oakley’s earnings went to charity—a rarity in the boxing world.
In most sports, boxers generally have the lowest moral quality and are prone to sudden wealth. Some boxers, after gaining fame, become embroiled in scandals related to sex or flaunting wealth.
From his very first fight, Oakley appeared with a calm and unflappable demeanor. Low-key, hardworking, humble, compassionate—these traits matched his abilities, paving the way for his legendary path.
Even Tyson, who faced the pressures of the media every day, praised him during interviews: “This kid will soon dominate the boxing world, but not just with his fists—he has the heart of a brave and wise man. He deserves everyone’s admiration.”
Oakley now had bodyguards with him, arranged by his management company. Four massive men, each bigger than him, followed closely.
Wang Bo raised an eyebrow. “If something really happens, do you protect them or do they protect you?”
Oakley laughed. “Of course they protect me. They’re professional bodyguards with experience, courage, and strength.”
“Can they run? They’re so huge!” Wang Bo asked.
All four were enormous Black men, probably bigger than Atulu. Atulu could only hold his own against them.
Oakley explained, “They have to be this big. In a shooting incident, they need to be able to shield their employer. Bodyguard work is dangerous.”
Wang Bo nodded thoughtfully. “Indeed.”
“Do you need bodyguards? I can introduce two to you,” Oakley said. “I think you need them. There are probably a lot of people watching you now.”
Wang Bo laughed. “No, no, no. I don’t need them—I’m a sheriff. Have you ever seen a sheriff arrest criminals with bodyguards?”
He certainly didn’t need them. Unless occasionally accompanying Eva on vacation, he stayed in Sunset Town, where under the Lord’s Heart’s protection, there was no threat.
Oakley first arranged a massage for recovery; he had come back for a vacation. Wang Bo asked, “How long are you resting?”
He exhaled comfortably. “Two months. My next championship fight isn’t until March next year, organized by the International Boxing Federation. But I doubt it will definitely happen in March—we don’t even know the location yet.”
Hearing this, Wang Bo’s interest was piqued. “Hey, the location isn’t decided yet? I know a good place…”
“Sunset Town!” Oakley answered for him.
Wang Bo laughed. “Haha, you know me well. I just said it casually, but if possible, I’d love to host a match here.”
Oakley was a grateful person. He didn’t know about the existence of the Lord’s Heart, but he remembered that when he was at his lowest, Sunset Town received him warmly. Wang Bo had even funded his rehabilitation training early on before he returned to boxing.
Hearing Wang Bo, Oakley said, “I can apply to the International Boxing Federation. I think Sunset Town is indeed a good place, and the IBF wants to develop the Oceania market too.”
Wang Bo thought Oakley was just being polite and didn’t take it too seriously.
That day, December 31st, the evening brought a grand fireworks party at Sunset Town’s central square.
The entire town police force was on duty. Calls kept coming in reporting suspected drug carriers, but most were misunderstandings or false alarms.
Ten or so calls turned out to be fake; when officers arrived, the callers weren’t even there. Clearly, these were acts by small-time dealers or Western Poison operatives.
Atulu slammed the table in anger. “I want to crush them! Those sons of bitches are provoking us!”
Uncle Bing waved his hand. “No need, boss. Simple—change the rule: no anonymous calls. The caller must wait for our inspection and be located first.”
This worked well. Subsequent calls ended immediately when callers were asked to cooperate.
As night deepened, the party atmosphere grew wilder.
Wang Bo had installed several cold-light flame projectors in the square. Although the lights looked like fire, they were actually lasers, making them safer.
As midnight approached, he ordered Uncle Bing to gather all the police.
The officers stood in a neat line. After several rounds of recruitment, the force had grown to 35 officers.
Wang Bo looked at them and nodded. “At ease, relax.”
“The new year is almost here. Everyone, thank you for your hard work over the past year. Sunset Town is a major tourist spot, so you have to work harder, and you’ve done very well. I’m very satisfied.”
Sweet Boy said, “Boss, we’re proud of it.”
Wang Bo continued, “I’m proud of you too. But I know it’s been hard, and the security pressure is high. So next year, I’ll expand the force to 50 officers.”
Many officers breathed a sigh of relief at the news.
New Zealand now had about 4.6 million people and 7,500 police—each officer responsible for over 500 people.
By that standard, Sunset Town already had a large police force, exceeding the usual ratio. But the town attracted so many tourists that even this number wasn’t enough.
Fortunately, Sunset Town’s public security was good, thanks to the stellar work of Wang Bo and his officers in previous years, which intimidated criminals from entering.
