After an anxious, drawn-out morning, Wang Bo treated everyone to lunch, inviting all the staff from the Oak City Police Department.
Jimmy and the other two were restless and naturally had no appetite. Rex drank a glass of spirits, and during the meal he asked Jimmy, “Do you like cats? Meow-meow, very cute.”
Jimmy replied, “How should I put it… I don’t have any special feelings about cats. I like dogs—medium to large breeds, the fluffy and gentle kind.”
Rex looked a little disappointed and didn’t say anything more after that.
As soon as work resumed in the afternoon, the results were ready. Ramon entered the laboratory holding a sheet of paper. Wang Bo and the others all looked at him, almost asking in unison, “Well? How is it?”
Ramon smiled and said, “From a biological standpoint, Rex is Jimmy’s father.”
“Yeah!” A burst of cheers erupted.
Rex and Jimmy, however, were momentarily stunned. The two of them gasped for breath, then crowded around Ramon to look at the test results.
As he read, Rex grabbed Jimmy and murmured, “My God, thank God—thank all the kind people! Thirty years… a full thirty years!”
Jimmy threw his arms around him and cried out, “My father! Why did this happen?”
He was someone who valued family deeply. The reason his relationship with his adoptive parents had become so strained was largely because he felt disappointed in them—he felt they belittled him and never truly treated him as their child.
Now, upon learning that his biological father had wandered for thirty years in search of him, walking across New Zealand again and again, Jimmy was overwhelmed with tears.
Daphne stepped forward and embraced the two of them, then said to Wang Bo, “Mayor Wang, you are truly a good person. Thank you so much for letting our father meet you. You are an apostle sent by God to save him!”
Wang Bo smiled and said, “I only did what I could.”
To get results so quickly—and such good results—made Wang Bo very happy. When he first decided to help Rex, it was simply a moment of compassion.
He had just become a father himself and could deeply understand a father’s feelings for his child. And Rex’s relentless search for his son across all of New Zealand moved him even more.
When he made the decision, he had wondered whether it might all be in vain. But in the end, he felt that even if they failed to find Rex’s son, at least Rex would be able to let go—so it wouldn’t be meaningless.
And yet, he truly succeeded. He really did help Rex find his son.
Rex was even more grateful. After holding his son and crying freely for a long while, he grabbed Wang Bo’s hands and bowed deeply. “Mayor Wang, thank you so much. I don’t even know what to say. My God—you are God!”
Wang Bo helped him up and said, “I am God’s messenger. Helping you find your son is something God would want to see. You’ve endured too much sorrow—it’s time for you to be happy.”
Sheriff Smith and the others applauded, offering their congratulations to Rex.
They returned to Sunset Town by car. Elizabeth took a group photo of the three of them and immediately posted it on the official forum and on Twitter and other social media platforms.
The related discussion became a trending topic on Twitter that very day. In just one afternoon, comments about the incident exceeded 200,000.
Their Twitter follower count surged dramatically—by at least two million—and the impact continued, with people still paying attention to Sunset Town’s account.
There were still reporters in Sunset Town, and they immediately interviewed the three of them. Rex held his son’s and daughter-in-law’s hands the entire time, his face full of smiles.
That evening, Wang Bo invited them to dinner and asked about their plans.
After changing his name, Chambord said, “Yes, yes, this is an important question. I plan to change my environment and return to New Zealand. After all, I belong here.”
Eva looked at Daphne with concern and asked, “Have you considered your wife’s choice?”
Chambord and Daphne held hands tightly. After everything that had happened, their bond had only grown stronger.
Daphne said, “Actually, this was my suggestion. I don’t have a job in Sydney—I’m a housewife—so for me, the only impact of changing environments is that it’ll be a bit harder to visit my parents.”
“But New Zealand and Australia are very close, aren’t they? I can still go back whenever I have time. As long as Chambord can sort out a job and schooling for the children, we’d be very happy to come to New Zealand.”
Rex said excitedly, “Mayor Wang, they’re actually doing this mostly for me. They know I belong to New Zealand, that I can’t leave here, so they’re willing to come and stay with me.”
Wang Bo applauded. “That’s wonderful news—finding yourself such a filial son and daughter-in-law. This is simply perfect.”
Chambord asked Rex, “Dad, what about you? What are your plans? I mean, where should we settle down? You’ve traveled all over New Zealand—you must have some great suggestions.”
Rex said, “Right here, son. Right here.”
“Where?”
Rex replied, “Sunset Town! I’ve traveled all over New Zealand, and I’ve been to Sunset Town three times. Each time, the changes were enormous—astonishingly so.”
“Don’t worry, I’m not choosing this just to thank Mayor Wang. Believe me, Sunset Town is suitable for our family. You work in insurance, and no insurance company has entered this town yet. But there are so many people here—they need commercial insurance.”
“As for me, I can apply to be a tour guide for the town. I sometimes work part-time as a guide to earn money anyway. I can do this job. And I’m familiar with all of New Zealand—I can give tourists lots of advice. I’m confident I can be an excellent guide.”
Afraid that his son and daughter-in-law might not accept his proposal, he hurriedly listed one reason after another.
But to be fair, everything he said made sense. Especially the idea of becoming a guide—Wang Bo was more than willing to accept someone like Rex.
Rex might be a bit old, but he was in good health. Finding his son had invigorated him even more, and being a guide would be no problem at all.
Moreover, he was right—having traveled across New Zealand two or three times, he knew the country’s attractions like the back of his hand and could offer tourists plenty of valuable advice.
Wang Bo even felt that being a guide might be underusing his talents; he would be better suited as a travel consultant, recommending destinations based on tourists’ needs.
Chambord and his wife exchanged a look, then said hand in hand, “Then that’s what we’ll do. Sunset Town is so beautiful—being able to live in such a garden-like place is truly a dream come true.”
Having attracted new residents, Wang Bo was very happy. He said to Eva, “This is what they mean by giving roses to others and leaving a lingering fragrance in your own hands, right?”
Eva nodded with a smile. “When you help more people, you gain even more in return.”
