When they entered the classroom, Atulu looked like he was about to cry.

The instructor supervising the exam glanced at him and asked with concern, “What’s wrong, Atulu? Did something happen at home?”

Wang Bo pushed him to his seat and said with a grin, “It’s nothing, sir. This idiot has a couple of days every month when he just goes crazy.”

Atulu said despairingly, “What am I going to do, boss?”

Wang Bo patted him on the shoulder. “Relax. Boss has other ways. I’ll help you cheat. When the instructor isn’t looking, we’ll pass notes.”

Atulu asked nervously, “Won’t we get caught?”

“Don’t worry,” Wang Bo said confidently. “I’m extremely skilled at this. You just have to throw the note back—leave the rest to me.”

When the test papers were handed out, as expected, the questions were easy for Wang Bo. His pen flew across the page, quickly filling in every blank.

Before long, Atulu’s note arrived.

The proctor wasn’t strict at all. There was only one instructor, and he kept going to the door to chat with other instructors passing by, which left the trainees plenty of opportunities to commit their little crimes.

But near the end, the instructor suddenly tightened his supervision. He stopped going outside and began pacing around the classroom, making it much harder to cheat.

Wang Bo figured he’d already passed along enough answers for Atulu to scrape through, so he wrote on the note one last time: This is the last answer I’m giving you. Don’t take any more risks.

Yet, taking advantage of a brief moment when the instructor had just walked past, Atulu threw another note back.

Wang Bo snatched it lightning-fast and stuffed it into his mouth. At that exact moment, the instructor suddenly turned around and strode over. “What did you just take?!” he demanded.

Wang Bo put on a blank expression, spread his hands, and showed that there was nothing there.

The instructor lifted his test paper, found nothing, then even patted his pockets. Only then did he leave, still half-suspicious.

Once the instructor stopped paying attention to their side of the room, Wang Bo finally dared to take the note out of his mouth.

He carefully unfolded it and saw a single line written on it:

Boss, I’m not asking for answers anymore. I want to ask something else—do you know what we’re having for our graduation dinner tonight?

Wang Bo almost lost his temper and punched Atulu. This bastard was just messing with him!

Safe and sound, the exam ended, and the month-long training program came to a close.

That evening, they held their graduation banquet. But before that, Superintendent Ferguson gathered them together and said, “Trainees, there’s something I need to mention. The next batch of trainees arrives tomorrow. According to tradition, think up a prank.”

Kevin said excitedly, “Hey guys, tomorrow’s April Fools’ Day! Perfect timing.”

Indeed, it was the end of March—tomorrow would be April 1st.

Someone frowned. “What’s so good about that? They’re not brand-new rookies; they’re police officers coming back for further training. They must have heard about the academy traditions.”

“And with it being April Fools’ Day, they’ll be even more on guard. Ordinary pranks won’t work.”

Wang Bo nodded. That made sense. On April Fools’ Day, everyone was wary of pranks, and police officers were far more vigilant than ordinary people. Messing with the 181st unit would be very difficult.

Ferguson shrugged. “That’s for you to figure out. Once you’ve got an idea, come report it to me. Just remember—don’t go too far.”

“And whatever you want to do, do it now. Once you graduate, you’ll all go your separate ways. Police work is busy—there probably won’t be another chance.”

A group of people gathered in the classroom, staring at each other, all looking a bit lost.

Sweet Boy tugged on Wang Bo and said, “I need to talk to you about something, Wang. Come out for a moment.”

Seeing this, several trainees immediately got excited and shouted, “Ooooh! Sweet Boy’s going to confess to Wang!”

A bald Black guy named Gosman laughed loudly. “Instructor Ferguson just said it—if you’ve got something you want to do, do it now. Anyone who wants to confess, hurry up!”

Wang Bo and Sweet Boy both flipped them off and cursed, “We’ll deal with you tonight!”

Once outside the classroom, Wang Bo asked, “What’s going on? Why all the mystery?”

Sweet Boy said, “Well, after we graduate, we’ll report to our assigned units. To be honest, I don’t want to go to Christchurch. I want to go where you are. Is that possible?”

“What?” Wang Bo stared at him in surprise. “April Fools’ Day isn’t here yet—don’t mess with me.”

Who wouldn’t want to work at a big-city police department? A small town meant fewer promotion opportunities and far less convenience and entertainment.

“I’m serious,” Sweet Boy said. “I actually wanted to talk to Superintendent Ferguson about it yesterday, but I know this isn’t something he can decide, so I figured it was better to talk to you.”

“You’re not joking?” Wang Bo asked. “Christchurch is a great place.”

Sweet Boy shook his head. “When the army first said they’d recommend me for the police, they told me it would be Auckland or Wellington. But in the end, they sent me to Christchurch.”

“What’s wrong with Christchurch?”

“When I was serving in the army, I had two mortal enemies. They both retired before me and went to the Christchurch police department. Shit—what’s worse, those two assholes both became station chiefs. I don’t want to walk into my own grave,” Sweet Boy said gloomily.

Wang Bo still doubted whether he was serious. Only after Sweet Boy raised his hand to swear did Wang Bo finally believe him.

After thinking for a moment, Wang Bo said, “Alright. If you really want to go to Sunset Town, that’s no problem. I’ll get someone to handle it. When the time comes, just say that your service in Afghanistan left you with some psychological issues, and the doctor recommended you recuperate in a quiet, beautiful place.”

Sweet Boy nodded. “Fine. As long as I don’t have to go to Christchurch, I’ll say anything.”

He hadn’t expected that coming to this training would bring such a gain—he could take away an excellent police officer.

Aside from being a bit of a show-off and loving to act cool, Sweet Boy was a nearly perfect friend. They’d lived together for a month and had grown close.

Wang Bo especially appreciated Sweet Boy’s good temper. Someone like that would easily get along with local residents once he became a police officer.

After some thought, Wang Bo directly called Police Commissioner Miller McBlain.

Miller was quite annoyed, thinking, We’re not even that close—are you really coming to bother me with this kind of thing?

But he also saw the immense potential behind Wang Bo and was happy to deepen their relationship. After considering it, he agreed, saying he would arrange for someone to handle it. Sweet Boy could go to Sunset Town with him.

When the two returned, they found the atmosphere in the classroom had completely changed. Everyone was enthusiastically discussing something, while Uncle Bing was registering things on a sheet of paper.

“What’s going on?” Wang Bo asked.

Atulu said excitedly, “The prank! Uncle Bing made a suggestion. We’re planning to go big and leave those guys with a really deep impression!”
