HLM -Chapter 1216 Get Out

Except for the landlubber who first learned to swim, everyone else went straight into underwater rescue training.

Buckle first taught them the correct underwater rescue posture and then said, “Practice in groups. What I’m teaching you is the simplest and most common rescue posture. You must master it first.”

The practice wasn’t as simple as one person falling into the water and the other pulling them out. First, they had to swim 100 meters freestyle, then perform the rescue.

Trainees also had to wear training suits—one-piece coveralls that were extremely heavy. Once in the water, swimming resistance increased dramatically.

At first, Wang Bo thought swimming 100 meters freestyle would be easy, but with the training suit, it became much harder. Still, he could manage it.

After 100 meters of freestyle, the partner jumped in and struggled lightly, and the rescuer lifted the person in the proper rescue posture.

Then they had to swim 100 meters sideways. During this, the person being rescued couldn’t provide any assistance—their hands and feet had to stay still, and their head had to remain above water at all times. Otherwise, it was a failure, and they had to start over.

Someone complained, “This is way too hard. And why the hell do we have to wear this stupid suit? Instructor, can’t we skip the training suit?”

The instructor sipped his coffee and said, “The training suit is meant to increase resistance. It lets you experience extreme rescue conditions—for example, if someone falls in and you jump in without time to remove your clothes.”

He then looked around and noticed Atulu hadn’t gone in yet, so he barked, “Hey, you! What are you doing? Get in! Why are you still eating?”

They had just finished physical training, so everyone was hungry. Atulu got hungrier faster, but he had brought some biscuits and was devouring them.

Hearing the instructor, Atulu hesitated and said, “Ah… Instructor, I have a stomach condition. I need to eat something before drinking water.”

The instructor kicked him in the water: “Shut your mouth. Then you won’t drink any water.”

“I haven’t even put on my training suit yet!” Atulu shouted after falling in.

This time, Atulu got lucky. His body was so large that no training suit fit him, so he could go in without wearing it.

The instructor replied, “Sorry, we’ve never had a trainee with your body type, so we didn’t prepare a suit for you.”

New Zealand police are like men in general: before marriage, they obsess over staying in shape; after marriage, forget about six-pack abs and a lean waist—they drink beer, eat meat skewers, and get as fat as they like.

Police are the same. During exams, they’re lean and muscular young men, but once on the job, they put on weight fast.

Wang Bo had to rescue Atulu. No one else wanted to partner with him.

Atulu was unhappy about this. Wang Bo draped his arm over Atulu’s shoulders and swam him to the poolside. Atulu complained, “A bunch of blind fools! I may be fat, but I have great buoyancy. Rescue is easier with me!”

The instructor shouted, “Trainee 18002! Your posture is wrong! Go back and practice again!”

Wang Bo called out, “Reporting, instructor! My partner’s back is too broad. I can’t wrap my arms under his armpits!”

The instructor blinked and said, “Fine. As long as you can get him back, don’t worry about the posture.”

Atulu smiled sheepishly: “No need to explain, sir. I now understand why no one wants to partner with me.”

“Eat less, then!”

“How can I eat less? Life is full of stress and problems. If I can’t enjoy my food, what’s the point of living?”

Wang Bo couldn’t argue with that.

By the weekend, trainees had a break, and Wang Bo arranged to meet Eva.

Eva had a hospital check-up anyway, so they switched it to Wellington for convenience—it’s the capital, after all, and there are plenty of big hospitals.

On Friday after class, the instructor reminded everyone about rules: “You have the weekend off, but you may not leave the campus. You can train or study on campus, but leaving is strictly forbidden.”

Everyone panicked. Voices erupted:

“What? We can’t leave? I have a date!”

“Date? I want to go out and get a change of taste! I’m tired of campus food.”

“Staying on campus isn’t rest. Training and studying? That’s like any other day!”

The instructor smiled slightly: “This is academy policy. Clearly, you haven’t studied the police academy regulations properly.”

Wang Bo rolled his eyes. Study? He had thrown that book away after discovering the exam was a prank.

On Friday, Eva went for her check-up during the day and came to the town in the evening to meet him after class.

Wang Bo couldn’t refuse to see his wife, so he decided firmly: “Cover me, guys. Damn it, I’m climbing this wall if I have to!”

Atulu said, “Sir, step on me to get out.”

Wang Bo was touched. He really needed Atulu’s help. The academy was like a military camp, with three-meter-high walls, difficult for one person to climb.

Under the cover of night, they reached a corner of the wall. Atulu crouched, Wang Bo stepped on his shoulders, and climbed up smoothly.

Just as he was swinging his legs over, a beam of light shone, and a patrolling guard appeared, shouting, “What are you doing?”

Atulu froze. Wang Bo hadn’t expected such bad luck to run into a patrol guard.

Quick-thinking, Wang Bo shouted at Atulu: “Did you just throw garbage out here? It hit me! Watch me climb in and beat you up!”

The guard pointed at him and shouted, “This is the police academy! Get out, or you’ll be treated as intruding on a secure area!”

Wang Bo rolled out…

Atulu nervously explained, “I couldn’t find a trash bin, so I threw the fruit peel outside.”

He pulled two oranges and an apple from his pocket to support his story.

The guard glared and said, “Don’t embarrass yourself again. Get out!”

Atulu mustered all his strength and rolled away.

After Wang Bo jumped down, Eva’s taxi was waiting. She picked him up, and they drove into town.

When they met, they first embraced and kissed passionately. Then Wang Bo sweetly said, “Come on, let me hear the baby’s voice. Did he miss me?”

Eva shyly looked at the driver and pushed him away: “We’ll do that at the hotel.”
