HLM -Chapter 1208 The Terrifying Exam

The police inspector stood at the front, his gaze sharp like lightning as he slowly swept across the line of cadets.

For the first time, Wang Bo felt pressure. This inspector carried real authority; his eyes were like knives, piercing straight into a person’s face, making one feel involuntarily weak inside.

He swallowed hard, thinking about how to escape.

Damn it, he wasn’t going to sit in the role of the Sunset Town police chief. Whoever wanted it could take it.

After scanning each cadet one by one, the inspector finally spoke: “At ease!”

Some let out a sigh of relief and prepared to sit down. In New Zealand’s police force, “at ease” could also mean dismissal.

But just as they moved their chairs, the inspector suddenly roared: “Did I tell you to sit?! Who sat down?! Who sat down?!”

Atulu wiped the cold sweat from his brow. He had also been about to sit, but being big, he needed to move the desk to do so, and hadn’t gotten the chance yet.

One short, blond-haired cadet had already sat down. Hearing the inspector’s words, he panicked and jumped up—but it was too late.

The inspector pointed at him viciously: “Discipline! Discipline! Discipline! Has no one ever been tested on this? I didn’t say sit, yet you sit? Lawless! Robertson, Derek, throw this bastard out!”

Robertson was the big instructor who had previously tormented them with driving exercises. He and another strong instructor grabbed the blond cadet and shoved him outside.

All eyes turned toward Atulu.

The Maori giant almost peed his pants. Wang Bo, knowing he couldn’t chicken out now, nudged him and whispered: “Stand your ground. I’ll take responsibility if anything happens!”

Hearing this, Atulu mustered his courage. He pushed the desk aside and walked out: “Reporting, Instructor, I think—”

“What do you think, kiwi bird?! Did I ask you to speak? Or do you want to be expelled too?!” the inspector barked.

Atulu’s newly found courage instantly vanished. He helplessly lowered his head and returned to his desk.

Meanwhile, the blond youth’s despairing eyes watched as the two instructors shoved him out. He resisted, flailing his arms, but the instructors, stronger than him, restrained his shoulders like criminals and dragged him away.

Wang Bo couldn’t stand watching—but it wasn’t his business, so he did nothing.

“New Zealand’s public security relies on us, the police! Like the military, we maintain this country’s safety! Therefore, the police must have the same discipline as the military! Discipline is our life! Understand?!” the inspector shouted.

“Yes, sir!” came the loud reply.

The inspector stepped forward, pointing at them: “Before the welcome ceremony begins, let me make one thing clear: you are not police yet, don’t think of yourselves as anyone important!”

“Here, you are robots. Just follow orders! Don’t think too much, and do not talk unnecessarily. Train properly, eat, sleep, defecate—nothing else!”

“Also, you’ve noticed I’m strict. Yes, I am a strict instructor. But I will not directly lead you. Your instructors are these guys, and they will be even stricter than me!”

The instructors behind straightened their chests and stared sharply.

But Wang Bo thought he saw one Black instructor smirk slightly. It happened in an instant, and the instructor quickly returned to a cold, serious expression, as if Wang Bo had imagined it.

The inspector introduced the instructors one by one:

“This is Instructor Bevis Kenneth. He handles combat and physical training. Don’t worry, although you only have a month of training, under him, by the end of the month your physical fitness will be marathon-ready.”

“Instructor Edmund Quint will teach you law. He’s serious, and you must pass his exam. Fail, and you cannot graduate!”

“Instructor Marvin teaches first aid. Before graduation, you must earn a first aid certificate, or you cannot graduate!”

“And Instructor Augusta…”

After the introductions, the inspector nodded.

At this moment, Edmund Quint took a stack of books from behind a table, one for each cadet: New Zealand Royal Police College Campus Discipline and Regulations.

The inspector’s face turned grim: “Welcome ceremony concluded. Take these with you. Tonight, before sleep, memorize all the rules. I will quiz you tomorrow!”

“All of it?” Wang Bo couldn’t help but ask.

The moment he spoke, he felt a pang of dread. Questioning an instructor was a serious offense; with these guys’ iron-fisted style, he might be in serious trouble.

The blond cadet’s earlier mistake was much lighter than Wang Bo’s, yet he was expelled. By comparison, Wang Bo might have expected the same fate—execution on the spot.

But the inspector did not do that. He just gave him a cold glance: “Yes, memorize everything. I’ll personally check tomorrow morning. Ten questions per person. Get one wrong, and you run ten laps around the field!”

The police academy field was not a school playground; one lap was one kilometer. One wrong answer meant ten kilometers. Train like this long enough, and you’d indeed be marathon-ready by graduation.

The instructors then left, and the cadets silently returned to their rooms with their books.

After locking the doors and checking for cameras or bugs, the dorm erupted in complaints:

“F**k, I’m gonna die. Fifty pages, memorize all of it?!”

“Forget running punishment. Just shoot us if we get one wrong!”

“Guys, I can’t survive this. I’m escaping tonight. Anyone with me?”

Wang Bo also wanted to sneak out, but outside the windows, spotlights shone, and instructors occasionally patrolled. No one could escape.

As for calling to complain? No signal. The academy had activated a signal jammer.

Upon hearing this, Wang Bo nearly blacked out. Was this a police academy or a hunter’s school? This wasn’t training—they wanted to destroy them!

Sleepless all night, several dorms stayed lit while everyone frantically memorized. Except Atulu.

He tried at first, but within two minutes, he was snoring away on his bed.

The visiting cadets respected him: “Brother Atulu, your heart’s huge—you can even sleep at a time like this!”

Finally, dawn came. Amid a chorus of yawns, the terrifying exam awaited them.
