HLM -Chapter 1161 Christmas Surprise

Happy Little Mayor 6 min read 1161 of 1443 24

Early in the morning, the little girl couldn’t even bother with washing up. As soon as she woke up, she flung open her bedroom door and dashed downstairs.

Eva saw her and said, “Brush your teeth, wash your face, and only then can you do anything else.”

Dale protested, “But sister, today is Christmas!”

Eva replied, “Even during the Spring Festival, you’d have to do this. It’s basic etiquette. Do you want to meet others looking messy and unkempt?”

Wang Bo nudged the little girl aside and said, “Go on. Your sister got up early today instead of sleeping in, so you better listen to her. You know how she gets when she wakes up grumpy.”

Hearing this, the little girl hurriedly dashed to the bathroom to wash up, clearly remembering just how intense Eva’s morning grumpiness could be.

Once everything was ready, it was time to open the presents. The Christmas tree was covered with neatly wrapped gifts, each labeled with a name.

Dale started picking off her gifts one by one, jumping to reach the ones that were too high.

Wang Bo had given Eva a very large box. Curious, the little girl asked, “What’s inside? The box is so big, is it a doll?”

Eva smiled, “Then help your sister open it.”

Excited, the little girl carefully lifted the big box, which required both hands to hold, set it on a chair, and skillfully began unwrapping it.

But after removing one layer, there was another.

Dale blinked and muttered, “What’s with all the mystery?”

She removed the next layer, only to find yet another inside.

Impatience started creeping in, but every time she unwrapped a layer, another appeared. She started to get frustrated, shouting, “What on earth is going on?”

“Be patient. After the storm comes the rainbow. The most beautiful scenery always comes after the toughest journey. Likewise, if you put in a lot of effort, you’ll get a wonderful reward,” Eva said.

Gritting her teeth, the little girl began her arduous journey.

Layer by layer, the gifts were unwrapped, until the massive box became a tiny brocade box no bigger than her palm.

She opened it again and found an envelope, soft to the touch, obviously not made of paper. It had minimal decoration, only a golden rose swaying in the breeze.

“What’s this?” she asked curiously.

The back of the envelope was visible. When turned over, the front bore a single line: From West Pacific Bank, with respect.

“Open the envelope and see. I wrote a love letter for your sister,” Wang Bo said with a laugh.

But inside, there was a bank card, snow-white, printed with Eva’s portrait.

Nearby, Qingyang whistled: “Tsk tsk, when did Wang Bo learn the tricks of rich young masters? Giving Eva a bank card—what’s the big deal? She’s not following you for money.”

Wang Bo’s parents chuckled, slightly displeased—giving a woman a bank card felt a little insulting.

Wang Bo looked around, disappointed. “Not a single one who understands this?”

“What?”

“Uh, I mean… not a single person who knows what it is?”

His father asked, “What is it exactly? If Boss Bartier were here, you could just ask him. Why are you showing off?”

A voice came from the doorway: “That is a diamond supplementary card issued by West Pacific Bank for top VIP clients. It has half the credit limit of the main card and can access all cash from the main card. Aside from certain VIP privileges, in terms of credit, it’s the same as the main card.”

Charlie had entered. He had been away from Sunset Town for some time, and now unexpectedly returned.

Wang Bo hugged him warmly. “Hey, buddy! Are you here on vacation or is your work done?”

Charlie shrugged, “Neither. I quit. That job wasn’t meaningful. I figured I might as well come to Sunset Town for work.”

Wang Bo was thrilled. “You actually quit?”

Charlie’s previous work was akin to domestic monitoring, an intelligence position. He had originally been sent to assist Wang Bo, to investigate why the old baronet left his territory to a stranger from China.

But with the Green Coalition’s election victory, that matter had faded away. No one cared anymore, and Sunset Town had become an important region in New Zealand.

Hearing Charlie quit, Wang Bo took the gift he had prepared for him, grabbed a slip of paper, and wrote: Appointing Mr. Charlie Stallone as Deputy Mayor of Sunset Town, WB.

Handing it to him, Wang Bo said, “This is your Christmas present.”

Charlie laughed. “Ha! You really know me, dear. I was just wondering how to ask you for a job!”

Wang Bo patted his shoulder. “Honestly, I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time. You’re the first official citizen of Sunset Town—ordinary positions just won’t satisfy you.”

“Time to open more presents!” the little girl said.

Wang Bo wanted to open Eva’s gift to him. Dale tried to take it herself, but Wang Bo shook his head: “Nope, I have to open it myself.”

“You’re so stingy!” she pouted.

Eva’s gift was large, yet very light. When Wang Bo opened it, inside was a small plastic board resembling a thermometer, with two letters, C and T, each accompanied by a red line.

“Hey, what’s this?” Wang Bo asked, holding it up.

Charlie’s face went pale. “Sh*t, you don’t know what this is?”

Wang Bo shrugged. “Uh, what is it? Some kind of measuring device? I used to have a dog and used something like this to check for parvovirus… my goodness!”

Suddenly, he realized what it was.

Charlie saw the change in his expression and said, “Eva, congratulations! Like Brittany, you’re going to be a mom!”

Wang Bo held the plastic board, eyes wide with excitement, and shouted at Eva, “How long ago?”

Eva spread her hands. “Recently. About a week ago. I was just wondering what to give you, and one day, God gave me this gift.”

It was hard to describe the feelings—definitely a mix of emotions. Overjoyed, Wang Bo pulled Eva into a hug, shouting, “You should’ve told me sooner!”

Wang Bo’s parents caught on immediately, surprised. “Sweetheart, you’re pregnant? Pregnant?”

Eva nodded. “Yes. I went to see Dr. Stockton for a check-up. Things went well with Wang Bo. Maybe in nine months, our castle will have a new little friend.”

Immediately, the atmosphere changed. Wang Bo’s gift had already been impressive—essentially giving Eva control over the family’s finances. But Eva’s gift was even more astonishing, bringing joy far beyond anything else.
