HLM -Chapter 1159 Just Like That

Happy Little Mayor 6 min read 1159 of 1443 9

Wang Bo had grown tired of Christmas Wonderland. He had already been there many times during its construction, and later, for inspections, he had gone in a dozen more times.

No matter how delicious tuna was, eating too much of it could get tiresome. Besides, for the purpose of inspecting the park, Wang Bo had toured it inside and out under the guidance of technical experts.

Many attractions in the park had their charm in being impressively mysterious—like magic. Once you understood how they worked, the novelty wore off.

Take the VR 3D aurora, for example. Seeing the sky filled with auroras was breathtaking, but once he saw the laser emitters, he would start thinking about the production process behind the lights. That made it all rather boring.

When Dale insisted that he accompany her to the park, Wang Bo felt a little uninterested and said, “Haven’t we already experienced a much better, raw version in Finland? The snow there was real. Here, everything—the snow, the aurora—is fake. It’s no fun.”

Dale blinked her big sparkling eyes. “Brother-in-law, will you still take us to Finland? Can it be like last time? I sleep, and when I wake up, I see the snow falling?”

Wang Bo shook his head. “Sorry, my dear little girl. That kind of game is exciting the first time, but the second time, it’s no fun anymore.”

“It’s fun! It’s really fun!” Dale cheered.

Wang Bo smiled mischievously. “I said I think it’s no fun.”

Dale said, “Then let’s go to the park. Our park isn’t bad, at least it doesn’t cost anything.”

Wang Bo said helplessly, “But you’ve been there before.”

Dale exclaimed, “Been there? When I went in with you, I had a huge safety helmet on and couldn’t see anything. It was like the blind men feeling an elephant!”

Wang Bo said, “Oh, not bad! Impressive, Dale, you actually know that saying?”

Dale said, “Of course I know! I learn Chinese every day. Don’t change the topic! Dale knows her own strength. Now we’re talking about going to the park.”

Wang Bo reached out and patted her little head. The child had grown up—she was no longer easily fooled. Since that was the case, he could only shake his head and accompany her to the park.

Father Bo asked, “Is this park fun? If it’s fun, I’ll go with your mom too.”

Wang Bo felt a twinge of guilt. He had been selfish, thinking only of himself and not of his parents.

Finally, the little girl’s wish was fulfilled. The five of them happily went to the park together.

Father Bo puffed on his cigarette, chuckling. “Look at us—we really do seem like a family: me and your mom, you and your wife, and Dale is like a kid.”

Wang Bo laughed, “Yeah, we really are a family.”

Dale looked back at him. “No, brother-in-law, what Uncle means is you need to have kids soon. They want a real grandson.”

Wang Bo continued smiling. “Dale, hush.”

Father Bo blew out a smoke ring. “Actually, Dale is right.”

Wang Bo stopped smiling.

Eva pursed her lips beside him, seemingly not hearing the comment, and led Zhuang Ding, the queen, and the fat cat brothers into the park.

Going to the amusement park today was hardly a good choice. It was the first official day of the park’s opening, and the crowd was nearly overwhelming.

It was understandable. In the Southern Hemisphere, the seasonal climate is the opposite of the Northern Hemisphere. Every year, Christmas is spent under scorching sun, which is hardly pleasant.

Wang Bo noticed that the older and wealthier people became, the more they pursued cultured experiences. For example, white people liked to reminisce about how their ancestors celebrated Christmas—with snow, Santa Claus, and warm clothing—which was hard to achieve in New Zealand.

The Christmas Wonderland in Sunset Town made all of this possible.

Especially noteworthy was the “Frozen World” attraction, a large indoor icehouse set in a natural cave. Lights simulated different times of day, and occasionally, snow would fall from the sky.

Of course, the snow was made by machines—but that hardly mattered. As long as the air was cold and snowflakes were drifting, it felt real enough.

Seeing so many people, Father Bo immediately lost his courage. “Forget it. Let’s come later. With this crowd, you won’t be able to see anything anyway.”

Wang Bo thought for a moment and said, “How about this—I pause operations? We, as a family, can go in and play for a while first.”

Dale quickly waved her hand. “Brother-in-law, don’t. That’s not good.”

Wang Bo laughed. “Dale, all that schooling wasn’t for nothing. Your sense of right and wrong is solid now.”

Dale shook her head. “Even if I hadn’t gone to school, I’d know that if you did that, people would attack you. And with such a big crowd, if you angered the public, you could be beaten to death without anyone knowing who did it.”

Wang Bo: “…”

Indeed, Father Bo and Mother Bo weren’t suited for such commotion. Wang Bo had them wait outside while Eva took the little girl inside.

Eva hesitated. “I’m not going in. There are too many people, and I hate bumping into strangers.”

Dale straightened her chest and lifted her head. “I don’t need you to take me. I’m grown up now. Come on, Little Wang, let’s go in together.”

Wang Bo said, “Right, you’ve grown up. And your mischievous tricks are getting trickier. Little Wang, you’ll probably scare the other visitors away. Then you can play however you want, right? Queen, you stay with Dale. If she acts like a little tyrant, drag her out.”

Dale’s scheme was foiled. She hung her head and followed the queen into the park.

That Christmas evening, they had a big feast. After playing for two hours, the little girl ran out panting, and they went home to prepare the dinner.

Wang Bo brought a turkey from the ranch—perfect for Christmas dinner.

Dale pouted. “Who even likes roast chicken anymore?”

Zhuang Ding and Little Wang obediently sat down and stared at the turkey, drooling. They knew exactly what it was for. To them, the turkey was a real treat—plenty of meat and soft bones, perfect for biting and chewing.

Indeed, like roast chicken at China’s Mid-Autumn Festival, New Zealanders didn’t care much about turkey anymore.

Wang Bo thought for a moment. “How about I make a honey-glazed roast turkey for you? It’s a little sweet, not too greasy. I think it’ll be pretty good.”

Dale had never eaten it before, so she clapped her hands and cheered.

Honey-glazed roast turkey is similar to regular roast turkey—it mainly relies on marinating to soak in flavors.

Wang Bo had Bowen prepare the turkey while he selected lemon slices, onions, rosemary, scallions, garlic, celery, and put them all in a blender to crush.

Under the blender’s power, the vegetables turned into a paste. He then soaked the turkey in it and placed it in the oven.

Seeing this, the little girl looked at him with wide-eyed wonder. “Brother-in-law, can we eat it like this? Just like this?”

Wang Bo set the oven to forty degrees and smiled. “Yep, just like this. Do you want to try it later?”
