HLM – Chapter 113 The Second Castle Heart

Happy Little Mayor 6 min read 113 of 1443 38

After capturing a thug, Wang Bo couldn’t bring him back to the castle, but the town didn’t have a police station yet.

Fortunately, a row of blockhouses had already been built along the roadside. Wang Bo picked the westernmost one and told Bowen, “Buddy, go order a sign. This will be the town’s police station.”

The good thing about blockhouses was that they didn’t need any decoration. Juan borrowed a chair from a nearby new resident and casually threw the thug inside.

Wang Bo inspected the blockhouse, testing the light switch—and to his surprise, there was electricity.

Charlie explained, “The substation has gone online, so these houses are connected to the power grid. But there’s no water yet. You’ll have to figure out the town’s water supply and sewage systems.”

Building a complete water and sewage system for a town required proper planning and, more importantly, a lot of money. Charlie only mentioned it briefly, assuming Wang Bo only had twenty million left.

Three-quarters of the money for the Level-3 road had already been paid, and Wang Bo had spent twelve million so far. He didn’t have enough left to build a water system for the town.

The remaining thugs made a phone call and left. One of them spat out a harsh threat before going:

“Yellow-monkey, you’ve stirred up trouble! Really, you’re going down!”

“If you wanna fight, then fight. If not—get lost!”

“Woof woof woof woof!”

The wheels of two business vehicles spun and quickly disappeared.

Afterward, Wang Bo made contact with two newly moved-in households. Both families were immigrants. One was a white family from South Africa. The man’s name was Karich Peter, and he planned to open a restaurant in the town.

The other family was a bit special: a father and son from the UK. The father was named Benjamin Jensen, and the son was Gerald Jensen. Both were tall and strong. During the earlier clash with the thugs, it was Benjamin who had come up to help.

Gerald was a quiet young man. After briefly nodding at Wang Bo, he went straight inside, leaving Benjamin to get acquainted.

Wang Bo shook hands with Benjamin and smiled, “Buddy, thanks for stepping in earlier. I owe you one.”

The big guy shrugged and replied casually, “Don’t mention it, Mayor. You did a great job.”

There wasn’t much more to talk about. Wang Bo explained, “Our town is still new, so life might be a bit inconvenient. I hope you understand.”

Benjamin responded, “We’ve been through worse. Besides, this place is like paradise.”

Hearing that, Wang Bo nodded and took his leave. On the way, he said, “That Benjamin… he’s got thick calluses on his palms, especially on his knuckles and index fingers. He’s definitely not an ordinary person.”

Charlie said casually, “Yeah, both father and son are retired soldiers. They mentioned that when they moved in. Gerald has war trauma, and Benjamin brought him to Sunset Town hoping the beautiful scenery and relaxed lifestyle would help him recover.”

Wang Bo understood now.

Back at the castle, he habitually opened the sandbox and checked the lottery disc. It had been half a month since he last used it, and now it had turned emerald green—just like the last time he drew the Heart of Wealth.

From his experience, he had figured out a pattern. The disc could be used once it turned either light green or emerald green. But the emerald version promised better rewards.

If the lord’s energy was abundant, the disc would turn light green in about a week. To become emerald green, however, it took at least two weeks—nearly a month when he last drew the Heart of Wealth!

Seeing the emerald color now, he gave the disc a gentle tap. If it was usable, great; if not, he’d let it continue absorbing lord energy.

But the moment his hand touched it, the disc began spinning rapidly. Wang Bo’s heart tensed. Last time he got the Heart of Wealth from this color—what would it be this time?

Without hesitation, he rushed to the statue of Lord Guan, pressed his palms together in a sincere prayer:

“Lord Guan, bless me! Your little brother has kept his word—serving you with the best food and drink. Please help me draw another Heart of Wealth this time!”

Lord Guan’s silkworm eyebrows furrowed, eyes glaring, holding a saber in his right hand and stroking his beard with his left—he didn’t even look at Wang Bo.

Instead, the two white cranes nearby got nervous when Wang Bo approached, squawking “Ooh ooh!” repeatedly.

Ignoring the white crane couple, Wang Bo mentally chanted “Stop,” and the pointer on the disc gradually slowed—finally landing on the spot for the Heart of Territory.

Wang Bo’s disappointment was palpable. And it got worse—he had drawn another Castle Heart!

Yes, he had drawn a Castle Heart again. Wang Bo was dumbfounded:

“I only have one castle! Where the hell am I supposed to use another Castle Heart?!”

He picked up the new Castle Heart with a sigh but noticed something different. This one was emerald green.

Frowning, he recalled that the last Castle Heart was light green, much paler than this one.

He opened the sandbox and hesitantly tried merging the new Castle Heart with the castle. Just like before, the heart fused with the castle—transforming it from light green to emerald green…

The ranch, homestead, nest, and other areas were still light green, much paler than the now-upgraded castle.

After turning emerald green, the castle began absorbing lord energy from the air more quickly, but this also diluted the already thin ambient energy even more.

Wang Bo understood now—this emerald Castle Heart was an upgraded version of the previous one. It would bring greater changes to the castle.

However, the upgraded castle also consumed more lord energy. The rate at which livestock and townsfolk generated energy didn’t seem fast enough to keep up.

Still, this gave him motivation—if he wanted to gather more lord energy, he had to speed up the town’s development, attract more residents, and raise more animals.

With the upgraded Castle Heart, the castle started to feel different.

First, although it was late summer and the sun still blazed, the inside of the castle wasn’t hot at all. The mountain breeze carried moisture and was very pleasant.

Second, the trees in the courtyard seemed to be growing better. As for cleanliness, Wang Bo didn’t even need to worry—the ground was spotless.

Finally, there was the general atmosphere. Inside the castle, Wang Bo felt more relaxed, comfortable, and at peace. His sleep was deeper, more restful. Humans might not be very sensitive to the change, but the white crane couple certainly were—they now refused to leave the castle.

Speaking of which, this pair was giving Wang Bo a bit of a headache. He had essentially taken in an ugly couple. Ever since they found a nest spot in the main castle, they barely left except to forage.

The castle was big, so having elegant white cranes inside wasn’t a big deal.

But… unlike the disciplined General, the crane couple had no sense of hygiene—they pooped inside the castle!

Wang Bo had already made up his mind: he’d let them stay until the eggs hatched. Once that happened—they were getting kicked out!
