HLM – Chapter 1053 Returning in Glory

Happy Little Mayor 6 min read 1053 of 1443 12

The kea parrots were benefitting from the princess again.

Although the princess wasn’t interested in eating possums, she was very interested in displaying her natural talent in the snow. She ran through the snowy field, constantly diving in and popping back out. Every time she emerged, she had a mouse in her mouth.

Once, she must have either broken into a mouse nest or encountered a whole group of mice nibbling at grass roots. She stuck her head into the snow, popped out with one mouse, then dove in again, and again—one after another, she caught seven mice in total!

The kea parrots were thrilled. They weren’t stupid; they quickly realized following the princess meant food. One after another, they flapped their wings and landed on her head, tagging along behind her.

And so, after Little Meng, the kea parrots now recognized another “boss.” They were truly living out the saying: “As long as you feed me, you’re my mom.”

The chubby cat brothers cast a sideways glance at the snow fox, curling their lips with disdain. Catching mice? Hmph. As if we couldn’t do that!

They lowered their heads, listening for the sound of mice scurrying and eating beneath the snow… but found nothing. This wasn’t a skill they were good at.

Da Pang patiently lay in the snow, listening. Er Pang, however, was impatient. His short little front legs began to dig rapidly, sending piles of snow flying. Soon he had dug a huge hole.

This made it even harder to detect possums—he was making so much noise that any mouse nearby would already be scared off.

Er Pang dug a huge snow pit for nothing, leaving Da Pang displeased. In his opinion, this task required patience—one must wait for the rabbit to come to the tree stump.

Seeing Er Pang still digging wildly everywhere, Da Pang angrily smacked his brother and stared with wide eyes, growling “woo woo,” warning him to stop making trouble.

Er Pang got angry too. You dare hit me? You’re my brother, not my dad! How dare you hit me? That’s it—I’m coming for you!

The two short-legged cats rolled around in the snow, clawing, biting, and wrestling, sending snow flying everywhere.

Seeing that the princess and the fat cats were playing happily, Wang Bo and Eva went to help the cowboys clear snow.

With the heavy snowfall, all construction sites in Sunset Town had paused. This actually worked out well—the equipment for the Christmas Park could now be transported from Finland by sea during the downtime.

In early August, Oakley returned to Sunset Town. His fame was much greater now—he had just finished the WBO cruiserweight championship match not long ago, winning his first official world title.

His homecoming was more impressive than ever. When word got out that he was returning, boxing fans from all over New Zealand and even Australia came to see him. Despite the poor weather, Sunset Town was packed, tourists shoulder-to-shoulder.

After arriving, Oakley first held a small celebration with his fans, then went to find Wang Bo.

He brought a gift—a magnificent gold championship belt.

This belt was completely different from the one Sunset Town had custom-made for their local tournament. This was a real world champion’s belt—gleaming with golden brilliance, heavy in weight, and exquisitely crafted.

Wang Bo stroked the belt. “Well done, buddy. Cruiserweight champion—you’re truly astonishing.”

Despite his fierce presence in the ring, Oakley still had the vibe of a big boy in daily life. He smiled. “You flatter me, Mayor. I just did okay. My physical condition wasn’t great in that match—I won by points. A bit of a pity. I wish I had won by KO.”

Wang Bo said, “There’ll be chances. But why didn’t you invite us to watch the big showdown? It must’ve been thrilling.”

They had watched the fight on TV—Oakley had challenged the other powerhouse, Maywesala, for the belt. The latter had beautiful footwork. Oakley kept probing, launching fierce attacks, and ultimately won by points.

Oakley shook his head. “I knew you were busy. Honestly, this belt isn’t something to brag too much about. WBO belts aren’t the most prestigious. Just wait for the WBC fight—then I’ll definitely invite you to witness it.”

In truth, he hadn’t invited Wang Bo because before the match he felt that his condition wasn’t good and suspected he might lose. So he didn’t ask Wang Bo to watch.

Who would have guessed that Maywesala, despite his fame, lacked the courage of past legends like Ali or Tyson?

Maywesala and his coaching team had studied Oakley’s style and realized Oakley was a once-in-a-century super boxer. His confidence going into the final was actually worse than Oakley’s. He kept dodging, trying to exhaust him and find a chance to counter.

But Oakley’s stamina was incredible. He kept up the pressure until the end and won by points.

This time returning home, Oakley mainly came to recuperate. He sighed, “Miami this season was unbelievably hot—I thought I’d go insane. Sunset Town is still the best.”

The WBO headquarters is in Puerto Rico, but the championship committee is in Miami, Florida, where the fight was held.

Wang Bo laughed. “I bet if you stay here two days you’ll be suffering again. It’s pretty cold in New Zealand now. You’re lucky, though—the snow just stopped. If you came back two days earlier, you’d have frozen your gloves off.”

Oakley said proudly, “Of course, of course—I checked the weather before returning. Isn’t the weather great now? I’m planning to resume training tomorrow. Want to join me?”

Being able to train with a world champion was a big deal for sports fans worldwide. Oakley’s reputation kept rising; people saw him as the savior of modern boxing, and increasing capital was investing in him.

Unfortunately, Wang Bo had no time. “Once this snow melts and the weather clears, the town needs to build a new square. I have to plan it.”

Oakley became interested. “A town square? That’s great. I’ll sponsor it. I’ll pay for the construction.”

Wang Bo smiled. “That’s great news for me, but are you serious? Building a large square costs at least two million.”

Oakley pointed at the championship belt proudly. “From this fight, counting the appearance fee and prize money, I earned forty million—US Dollars!”

Wang Bo knew that this prize money was nothing compared to what he could earn once his fame exploded. The WBC championship prizes could reach into the hundreds of millions.

“Congratulations, buddy. But you don’t need to pay this time—we already have a sponsor.”

Oakley asked, “Who?”

Wang Bo gave a mysterious smile and motioned him closer. “Come here—I’ll whisper it to you.”
