Lin Hao, Wu Xiaozhou, Bai Zhitao, Fatty Meng, Cui Gang, Boss Gao, Yan Xiaoqi, and Chu Xiaomei—once again, it was these same eight people. This time, Lin Hao had planned to be a little more careful and not get drunk again, but these wolves seemed to have made an agreement beforehand and all took turns forcing drinks down him.
The eight of them entered the Ferry Bar, and Lin Hao immediately spotted Fourth Sister leaning against the counter. He staggered over.
“Slap!”
He placed 1,000 yuan on the counter.
“F-Fourth Sister, if you still don’t accept the money, tomorrow I’m not coming anymore!”
Fourth Sister giggled. “You brat, you’re just using this as an excuse to quit, aren’t you?”
Lin Hao froze. Actually, she was right. He had already said he wouldn’t work here anymore, so he hurriedly pleaded, “Sis, sis, I really don’t have time! Winter vacation is about to start soon. I didn’t go home during summer vacation either. If I don’t go back now, my old man might not even recognize me anymore!”
Fourth Sister looked at him with a smile but said nothing.
“Really, really!” Lin Hao was genuinely drunk now. He reached out and put his arm around Fourth Sister’s shoulder. “Sis, just… just let me go like you’re letting out a fart!”
Wu Xiaozhou and the others burst into laughter. The two female servers behind the counter also couldn’t hold back their laughter.
“Pfft!”
Fourth Sister laughed as well. “I’ve already found someone to replace you. Do you think I’d delay your winter vacation and stop you from going home?”
Lin Hao’s eyes lit up. He quickly withdrew his hand and clasped his hands together.
“Oh my god, thank you so much!”
“But we agreed—you better hurry back when school starts in March, you brat!” Fourth Sister said, her face turning serious.
“That… that can be discussed later!” Lin Hao burped from the alcohol, and the next moment he felt his ear hurt—Fourth Sister had already grabbed it.
“Ah—ouch, ouch…”
Lin Hao cried out.
Chu Xiaomei and Bai Zhitao laughed so hard they were practically bent over.
“Are you coming back or not?” Fourth Sister asked fiercely, one hand pulling his ear and the other on her waist.
“Coming, coming! How could I not come?” Lin Hao immediately begged for mercy. “Besides, I can’t bear to leave Fourth Sister either!”
Fourth Sister let go. Her pretty face was flushed red as she scolded him coquettishly.
“Brat, you even dare to tease me?”
During this drinking session, Lin Hao went up on stage and gave a drunken performance. Although he didn’t lose his usual standard, afterward he couldn’t remember a single thing he had sung.
Fourth Sister raised her wrist and checked her watch. It was already midnight, but Lin Hao and the others were still drinking. Several servers had already finished cleaning up and were just waiting for their table to leave.
Helpless, she walked over again, drank a bottle of Little Qingdao beer with them, then stuffed the 1,000 yuan Lin Hao had left on the counter back into his pocket before finally driving them away.
She leaned against the doorway, watching Lin Hao and the others’ figures disappear into the snowy night. She sighed inwardly, thinking how wonderful it was to be young.
Then she remembered that she hadn’t even graduated from junior high school before following her older brother out into society to struggle and make a living. Her heart suddenly felt heavy.
The two remaining servers cleaned up Lin Hao’s table, and the three of them locked the doors.
Watching the two young men get onto their bicycles, she reminded them to be careful because the roads were slippery. Only then did she return to her Audi TT.
She started the car, and as the interior gradually warmed up, she was just about to shift gears and drive away when her phone rang.
Strange. It was so late—who would be calling?
“Hello?”
She answered.
“Fourth Sister, Fourth Sister, come quickly! We got beaten up! Lin Hao, Lin Hao seems like he’s not going to make it!”
The anxious voice on the phone belonged to Wu Xiaozhou.
Fourth Sister’s mind went blank with a “boom.”
Weren’t they perfectly fine just now? It hadn’t even been half an hour—how could something have happened already?
“Xiao Wu, don’t panic. Tell me where you are.”
“Near the west wall of our school!”
Fourth Sister hung up the phone, stepped on the accelerator, and the Audi TT shot forward.
……
Lin Hao and the others were once again like a string of grasshoppers, walking toward the school with their arms around each other’s shoulders. The eight of them had already fallen several times along the way, and everyone’s coats were covered with snow.
When they were nearing the western wall, Yan Xiaoqi’s eyes sharpened, and he shouted loudly, “Hey! Look, look, look at those people ahead. Aren’t they the guys who went to play at the internet café? They haven’t climbed in yet?”
The gap in the western wall was a secret in the hearts of all the students at the School of Arts. Whenever they went in or out and happened to meet someone, even if they didn’t know each other, they would often exchange a mysterious smile and treat it as a greeting.
Lin Hao and the others stopped and stared ahead with their blurry, drunken eyes.
Beside the western wall was a narrow one-way road for vehicles. The dim yellow streetlights were spaced far apart.
Up ahead, there were four vague figures, and it seemed like they were holding something in their hands.
The eight people, whose minds had been numbed by alcohol, didn’t think much about it and continued stumbling forward.
When they were only a dozen steps away from those people, Wu Xiaozhou shouted loudly, “Hey, bros! Can’t get in? Look at us, we can even crawl in there. How much did you drink? Your alcohol tolerance isn’t that great…”
Before he could finish speaking, the four figures walked over in big strides.
Only then did they see clearly that all four of them were wearing dark blue thick cotton railway worker jackets. Judging by their ages, they were all in their twenties. They clearly weren’t students from the School of Arts.
One of them asked sharply, “Who is Lin Hao?”
Lin Hao froze. What was going on?
The others also hadn’t expected that these four people were looking for Lin Hao. That was the problem with drinking too much—at this moment, their heads were all like mush.
Lin Hao even chuckled and answered, “I am. What’s up?”
The man raised the stick in his hand.
“What’s up? I’m gonna beat you up!”
The eight of them were stunned. Only then did they realize that these people were all carrying wooden sticks as thick as their wrists.
“Damn it!” Wu Xiaozhou was the first to react. He shoved Bai Zhitao down into the snow, then charged forward in a single step.
Lin Hao and the others also sobered up halfway and rushed forward one after another.
Bai Zhitao rolled on the ground, got up, and shouted, “Help! Robbery!” Her shrill scream carried far into the night.
Wu Xiaozhou dodged the stick coming down toward his head and kicked the man hard in the stomach. The man staggered backward and fell onto his butt.
Lin Hao moved like lightning and reached behind one of them. Turning around, he punched him hard in the back.
Although Lin Hao’s group had more people, they had drunk too much, and their footing was extremely unstable. Soon, they were tangled up in a brawl with the attackers.
Fatty Meng pinned one man underneath him. Before he could raise his fist, the man punched him twice in his chubby face.
Right after that, a figure rushed over, fingers curled like claws, scratching toward the man’s face.
Fatty Meng looked over and saw that it was actually Chu Xiaomei.
Bai Zhitao ran over. She picked up a wooden stick from the ground, but everyone was rolling around together and she couldn’t tell who was who. Besides, they were still some distance away from the streetlight, so she couldn’t bring herself to swing it.
A group of drunkards fighting four prepared men—everyone could guess the result. Before long, Cui Gang was beaten until he was kneeling on the ground, vomiting nonstop. Perhaps because he was too dirty, that person finally stopped attacking him.
A bald man’s cotton hat fell to the ground. After he got up, he kicked Bai Zhitao down, snatched up a stick, and charged toward Chu Xiaomei.
Chu Xiaomei’s red knitted hat had no idea where it had fallen. At this moment, her hair was loose, and she looked like a shrew as she scratched at a sturdy man who had just been knocked down by Wu Xiaozhou.
Lin Hao tackled the guy who was kicking Gao Laoda. After a few punches to the man’s face, he turned his head and saw the bald man running aggressively toward Chu Xiaomei with a stick in his hand.
He crawled and rolled his way over, trying to stop him.
Chu Xiaomei was standing between him and the bald man, and at this moment, the bald man’s stick was already raised high.
