Lin Hao thought again that the little money he had on hand really wouldn’t last long. If he could earn more, his father wouldn’t have to work so hard.
Besides, he should buy two mobile phones—one for his father—so calling would be much more convenient.
However, he didn’t dare spend the little money he had recklessly. Although phones at this time were not yet smartphones, even second-hand ones cost around two thousand yuan. If he used the money he had to buy one, his father would definitely feel distressed.
“Huh?!” Wu Xiaozhou’s voice came from beside him.
“What?”
Wu Xiaozhou took off his shoes, sat cross-legged on the bed, lit a cigarette, and began puffing smoke. “What are you thinking about? I’m talking about those long white legs!”
Lin Hao was a little absent-minded. “Oh, go on.”
“Tonight, wanna go check it out? I heard this is one of the bigger bars in the provincial capital!” Wu Xiaozhou said.
Lin Hao shook his head. He really did want to go take a look, especially after just thinking about making money, but his body was too lazy to move.
People always said spring makes you sleepy, autumn makes you tired, and summer makes you doze off. He had added one more: winter makes you sluggish.
“Come on, let’s go. Staying cooped up in the dorm every day is boring!” Wu Xiaozhou tried to persuade him.
Lin Hao still didn’t want to go. Once the weather turned cold, he just didn’t feel like moving.
During military training, he had secretly sworn that he would run every day. But not long after he started running, the weather became cold. Since showering was inconvenient, he got lazy and stopped running.
Wu Xiaozhou’s eyes suddenly rolled. “Oh right, I heard that song you sang on the train—someone is singing it at a bar. Apparently, the response has been really good! Your work has literally been stolen, and you’re not even going to take a look?”
“What?” Lin Hao immediately sat up.
The song he sang on the train was Blue Lotus. How could someone have stolen it?
Wu Xiaozhou chuckled. He knew this trick would work.
“Who? Who’s singing it?” Lin Hao asked.
“Guess!” Wu Xiaozhou said mysteriously with a grin.
“Damn!” Lin Hao instantly understood. “Wan Yong!”
Wu Xiaozhou gave him a thumbs-up. “Alright, you’re impressive. You figured out it was him right away!”
“What time does that bar start?” Lin Hao put both legs down from the bed and lit a cigarette.
“Probably around eight-thirty. I think that’s when Wan Yong does his guitar performance. The band starts at nine. The long-white-legs girl is with the band!”
“The band from our department?”
Wu Xiaozhou shook his head. “No, one from outside.”
“Is it far?” Lin Hao asked.
Wu Xiaozhou threw his cigarette onto the ground and couldn’t even be bothered to step on it. “Not too far. About a twenty-minute walk.”
Lin Hao climbed down from the bed. “Let’s go eat!”
At this time, people’s awareness of copyright was still very weak. Whether he could get his rights back or not, he had no idea.
But he still wanted to go listen and see what Wan Yong had to say. If Wan Yong said on stage that the lyrics and music were Lin Hao’s, then it didn’t matter.
But if this guy shamelessly claimed that the song was his, then Lin Hao couldn’t let him get away with it!
Wu Xiaozhou didn’t move. “Wait a while for Fatty Meng and Old Cui. They’re going too tonight.”
Lin Hao understood. These three guys had planned this together! They were afraid he wouldn’t go, so they used the Wan Yong incident to provoke him.
“Wan Yong really sang my song?” Lin Hao asked. If that wasn’t true and they only wanted to go see Bai Zhitiao, he really couldn’t be bothered to move.
Wu Xiaozhou became anxious. “It’s true! I’m not messing with you!”
“Get lost. How many times have you been the ‘son’ already? Not once have you called me ‘dad’!”
Wu Xiaozhou chuckled and casually lay down on the bed. “Haozi, I think Chu Xiaomei’s eyes when she looks at you are a little strange. Why don’t you make a move?”
Lin Hao was stunned. “That shouldn’t be. I treat her like a buddy!”
Wu Xiaozhou said, “Yeah, we all treat her like one of the guys, but she’s still not carrying the right equipment, you know! I always feel like the way that girl looks at you is a little strange!”
Lin Hao thought about it for a moment, but didn’t feel anything was wrong. “Forget it! Isn’t it you who’s interested in her instead?”
With a “whoosh,” Wu Xiaozhou sat straight up. “Damn, me? Like her? If you cover her face, you wouldn’t even be able to tell whether she’s a guy or a girl! Even an airport runway has more ups and downs than her!”
“Hahaha!” Lin Hao burst out laughing. This guy really knew how to roast people!
Wu Xiaozhou narrowed his eyes, looking lazy. “I still like long white legs. Now that’s what you call a woman!”
“Is there no one prettier in your class?” Lin Hao asked him.
Wu Xiaozhou shook his head and sighed. “Sigh! Too many wolves and too little meat, and the quality isn’t even good! There’s only one beauty, and she’s still a tomboy!”
“Wait, that’s not right!” Wu Xiaozhou suddenly sat up again. “Your piano major alone should have at least fifty or sixty girls. Didn’t you take a liking to any of them?”
Lin Hao thought about it. Nearly half a semester had already passed, but why was it that he didn’t have a particularly deep impression of anyone? There seemed to be several pretty girls in the class, but he really hadn’t put any thought into them.
Besides, most of his classmates looked at him with strange, sarcastic expressions, so he couldn’t be bothered to pay attention to them.
Hadn’t he sworn that he was going to enjoy his college life properly? Wasn’t he supposed to date a few girls? So why was it that after actually entering university, he wasn’t putting any effort into that at all?
While the two were talking, Fatty Meng and Cui Gang returned.
Seeing that Cui Gang wasn’t holding his trumpet mouthpiece today, Lin Hao asked with a grin, “Where’s the mouthpiece?”
Cui Gang seriously shook his head. “It’s cold. It sticks to my lips!”
“Hahaha!”
Everyone burst out laughing.
Dukou Bar, 8:20 PM.
Bars had only started appearing in the past couple of years. Although nightclubs were still doing pretty well, those kinds of places were mostly frequented by wealthy middle-aged people. A bar like this was more popular among young people.
This bar was quite large. Even the entrance looked much more impressive than the Tieqi Bar in Chunhe.
Lin Hao, Wu Xiaozhou, Fatty Meng, and Cui Gang walked into the bar, and a young waiter immediately came over to guide them inside.
The inside of the bar was huge, and the decoration was extremely luxurious. It seemed the owner had invested quite a bit.
The stage was also fairly large, giving it somewhat of a live performance venue feel.
Above the stage was a metal frame welded from iron pipes, with many lights hanging from it. Wan Yong, whose long hair reached his waist, was sitting on a chair, probably tuning his guitar.
The four of them spotted him immediately.
Lin Hao secretly felt ashamed. He had really become lazy. After making some money at Chunhe’s Tieqi Bar, he had relaxed and stopped pushing himself. Look at Wan Yong—he still knew to come out and find places to perform for money!
The bar wasn’t full yet. Scattered customers sat in groups here and there. Lin Hao pointed toward the four-person table directly in front of the stage.
Fatty Meng was from the provincial capital. His parents had started doing business early, and his family situation was fairly decent, so tonight he had insisted on treating them.
He ordered eight bottles of Little Qingdao beer, a plate of spiced sunflower seeds, and a fruit platter.
Before the beer even arrived, Wan Yong had already started singing after saying a few auspicious words.
Before he had even finished one song, more and more customers entered the bar. Occasionally, they could see a few people wearing thick gold chains with shaved heads and flashy styles—who knew if they had been hired by the bar owner to keep things under control.
After Wan Yong finished a song, a girl below shouted:
“Handsome guy, sing ‘Blue Lotus’!”
Someone whistled.
“‘Blue Lotus’!”
“‘Blue Lotus’!”
“……”
The applause became chaotic.
The spotlight on the stage was dazzling, and Wan Yong couldn’t see Lin Hao and the others clearly.
His fair face was full of smiles. He deliberately lowered his voice, making it sound deeper and richer.
“Thank you everyone for your support. Next, I’ll give you a song written and composed by myself—‘Blue Lotus’!”
The whistles rang out everywhere.
“Whoo!”
Wu Xiaozhou stood up, but Lin Hao immediately grabbed his arm and pushed him back into his chair.
