Cultivators were currently battling here.
The dazzling array of spells and techniques made Lu Wu’s eyes burn with excitement. Every move was aimed to kill. Anyone unaware of the situation would think these people had a life-or-death grudge against each other.
But in reality…
“You dare steal my woman? I’ll kill you!”
“In the cultivation world, strength reigns supreme. So what if I’m stronger than you? If you’ve got the guts, stop buying buns!”
“Heh, do you think I don’t know what you’re really after? The courtesan you fancy just happens to be willing to spend the night with me. If you’re not good enough, don’t blame the road for being uneven.”
“What a joke. You really think it’s because of your own abilities? It’s obviously because Boss Lu’s buns are so amazing!”
The story was simple.
Zhang San had fallen for a courtesan. Unfortunately, after being conquered by Li Si’s prowess last night, she was still willing to accompany him tonight. Naturally, Zhang San wasn’t willing to accept that.
After investigating the reason, he decided to turn the tables with the help of the buns.
But would Li Si allow that?
One argument led to another, and before long, fists—and spells—started flying.
That was the scene Lu Wu had stumbled upon.
A huge crowd had gathered to watch. Some were even cracking sunflower seeds while spectating. Quite a few people had benefited from the buns the previous night, and under their enthusiastic promotion, Lu Wu’s bun stall had become famous throughout the Red-Light Street.
Some sharp-eyed street vendors had even moved their stalls here.
Looking around, Lu Wu realized just how many people had gathered. Even courtesans from nearby brothels were leaning out of windows to watch the excitement.
With layers upon layers of people surrounding the area, there was no way for her to squeeze through.
Small, weak, and helpless, Lu Wu watched people beating each other up over her buns while blocking the actual bun seller outside the crowd.
She couldn’t help but raise a hand.
“Um… could you please make way?”
Her voice was instantly drowned out by the crowd. Some spectators were even cheering for the fighters to continue.
Among the crowd, Lu Wu spotted Lou Xiaotian.
The usually aloof young man had eyes darting around as if he were plotting some mischief.
Perhaps her gaze was too obvious, because Lou Xiaotian looked over.
The moment he saw Lu Wu, his eyes lit up like light bulbs.
He opened his mouth to shout something, then seemed to think better of it and quickly covered his mouth.
Sneaking out of the crowd, he hurried to Lu Wu’s side and deliberately positioned himself to block her from view.
“Boss Lu, how about we make a deal? Don’t go over there today. I’ll buy all the buns.”
After the verification provided by last night’s customers, he was already certain that Boss Lu’s buns carried some kind of special enhancement effect.
As a man, how could he not be tempted?
“That probably won’t work.”
Lu Wu shook her head.
The system interface showed that she was currently outside the designated stall area. Any buns sold right now wouldn’t count.
Besides, she’d already made a promise to yesterday’s customers. She couldn’t let one person buy everything.
“Ah…”
Lou Xiaotian’s disappointment was painfully obvious.
Just as he was about to continue persuading her, someone suddenly shouted:
“Boss Lu is here!”
There were plenty of sharp-eyed people around.
Instantly, the two cultivators fighting in the center stopped in perfect unison. Zhang San even snapped his fingers, restoring the shattered ground.
Magic was really convenient.
Lu Wu turned green with envy.
One pair of eyes after another turned toward her.
Under the attention of what felt like countless laser beams, Lu Wu forced a smile and greeted everyone.
“Hello, everyone. I’m here. Could you please make way and let me through so I can set up my stall?”
Whoosh!
The crowd parted in a single second.
Some people even thoughtfully helped push her cart.
“Boss Lu, you prepared enough buns today, right? I’ve been looking forward to stuffing myself all day!”
“Boss Lu, I’m a new customer. You can’t play favorites!”
“I’m not greedy. I just want the same buns as yesterday.”
“Hey, move aside! I was Boss Lu’s first customer yesterday. I helped her open for business. I deserve to be first today too!”
Amid the joking and banter, the courtesan from the previous night approached Lu Wu.
The way she looked at Lu Wu was burning hot.
Feeling as though she might be swallowed whole, Lu Wu noticed the faded spots on the woman’s previously plain face and immediately understood.
“Little sister, thank you for your buns.”
“My name is Furong. From now on, you can set up your stall here without worry. As long as I’m around, no one will dare touch you.”
As she said this, Furong swept her gaze across the crowd.
Many people immediately lowered their eyes, unwilling to meet hers.
Although the pressure wasn’t directed at Lu Wu, she could still sense an overwhelming aura from Furong.
Among this group, Furong’s cultivation seemed exceptionally powerful.
“I’ll be first in line. No objections, right?”
Furong asked with a smile.
“Of course not. Miss Furong being first is only natural.”
Everyone laughed and nodded.
Before the others could react, the recently rejected little tyrant quickly slipped into place behind Furong.
“Everyone, be civilized and line up! And stop fighting. What if you accidentally hurt Boss Lu?”
Lu Wu had no cultivation. Any cultivator could tell that with a glance.
For an ordinary mortal, even the slightest shockwave from a cultivator’s battle could kill her several times over.
Thanks to Lou Xiaotian’s efforts, the crowd gradually formed an orderly queue.
Though there were still minor disputes over positions in line, things remained relatively peaceful.
Meanwhile, Lu Wu worked with practiced ease.
Even the raw filling alone was enough to make customers’ eyes shine.
Watching her nimble fingers stuff huge portions of filling into thin bun wrappers, everyone could see how generous she was.
The wrappers were thin, but the filling was abundant.
They could already imagine the scene after the buns were steamed—the juicy meat filling wobbling gently inside the delicate wrapper, swimming in rich broth.
Gulp!
The crowd collectively swallowed.
Under everyone’s eager gaze, Lu Wu arranged tray after tray of buns into the steamer.
Furong dabbed at the corner of her mouth with a handkerchief.
To distract herself, she struck up a conversation.
“Boss Lu, can you supply these buns to the sisters in our brothel on a long-term basis?”
From the queue, countless courtesans cast passionate looks toward Lu Wu.
They weren’t interested in Kidney Buns or Little Meat Buns.
But no woman could resist Red Bean Paste Buns that enhanced beauty and skincare.
“Ah, for the next five days, you can all come and buy them.”
The customers’ enthusiasm was the greatest affirmation a chef could receive.
Lu Wu was genuinely happy.
Unfortunately, she was completing a system mission.
What food she sold next—and where she sold it—would all be determined by the system.
She couldn’t make any guarantees.
Though she felt sorry for the ladies, she wanted to cultivate immortality.
For the sake of the system rewards, there was no way she would remain in one place for too long.
“Why only five days?”
Furong asked.
The others all pricked up their ears.
“Boss Lu, if you’re facing any difficulties, just tell us. In Little River Town, I don’t believe there’s anything I can’t handle.”
Lou Xiaotian also spoke up.
“That’s right, Boss Lu! Is someone causing trouble for you? Did someone threaten you? Just say the word and we’ll smash his head in!”
Faced with such enthusiastic support from a crowd of violence-loving cultivators, Lu Wu was touched.
But she politely declined.
“No, no difficulties at all.”
“I just want to try making more varieties of food. In the future, the locations where I set up my stall won’t be fixed either, so I can’t make any promises.”
Ignoring the puzzled looks around her, Lu Wu arranged the freshly steamed buns.
Then she glanced at the queue, which had already stretched into a long dragon, hesitated for a moment, and announced:
“To make sure everyone gets some, each person is limited to two buns today.”
