The perspective shifts to a certain mountaintop deep within the Hundred Thousand Mountains. Qin Zhan and the others had long since dried out their silence beneath the blazing sun.
Even though the sun hung high overhead, they couldn’t feel the slightest bit of warmth.
Their hearts were cold.
They had proven that true heartbreak wasn’t about shouting and arguing.
After wandering through the mountains for an entire day and night, not only had they failed to find Boss Lu, they had also gotten hopelessly lost.
As for the map…
“Heh.”
Qin Zhan tore the map in his hand to pieces and let the scraps drift away in the wind.
What a piece of garbage.
Unfortunately, the wind couldn’t blow away their worries.
None of them even knew where they were anymore. The mountain environment naturally produced confusing miasma that distorted one’s sense of direction. Ordinary navigation methods were useless here.
After venturing this deep, their Realm Communicators no longer worked.
They had completely lost contact with the outside world.
Though all of them were cultivators and wouldn’t starve to death here…
Still…
Lou Xiaotian hid behind a boulder, staring at the gigantic creature blocking the valley below. Then he glanced at the massive snake lurking indistinctly within the forest behind them and let out a deep sigh.
They were trapped.
Even if those demon beasts weren’t acting intentionally, nobody dared approach them recklessly.
The Ironclad Dragon Beast in the valley was estimated to be at the Void Refinement Realm.
Meanwhile, the strongest among their group was only at the Nascent Soul Realm.
There were two entire major realms separating them.
Furthermore, the Ironclad Dragon was famous for its defense. Its thick armor was absurdly tough. Even if all six of them attacked together, they probably wouldn’t be able to do more than scratch its hide.
On the other hand, a casual roll from the beast could easily crush them to death.
They couldn’t move forward.
They couldn’t go back.
They were completely stuck.
“So what do we do now?”
Prince Long Zhang had never encountered a situation like this before. Sitting on the ground, he looked utterly dejected.
Then he secretly glanced at Shan Hanzhi and grinned foolishly.
Although being unable to leave was regrettable, if she stayed here with him, he honestly wouldn’t mind at all.
His mother had once told him that when you met a woman you liked, you had to pursue her boldly.
Back then, his father had won over his mother exactly that way.
As for all the setbacks and hardships his father endured during the process…
Those were merely a little frost and wind on the road of love.
Not worth mentioning.
His lovestruck expression was obvious to everyone. Rolling their eyes, the others subtly moved farther away, unwilling to be infected by whatever illness he had.
Though Shan Hanzhi appeared to ignore him, a faint smile curved at the corners of her lips.
What a fool of a prince.
“Can we break through from the side?” Zhang Yue suggested.
“I can send ghost spirits ahead to scout.”
Thanks to her ghost spirits, many dangers along the way had been detected in advance. Combined with the scent-concealing medicine provided by Jiang Yunhe, they had managed to avoid trouble thus far.
“Hard to say.”
Jiang Yunhe brushed dust from his clothes.
At this point, none of them looked particularly presentable. They were all filthy and disheveled.
They had gone far too deep into the mountains.
The creatures living here now were all powerful demon beasts.
He couldn’t guarantee his medicine would work on every one of them.
If they accidentally entered the territory of a beast with strong territorial instincts, they might lose their lives on the spot.
“Boss Lu, where exactly are you?!”
Lou Xiaotian suddenly howled toward the sky, beating his chest in despair.
Back then, he should have resisted the evil forces more bravely and refused to leave.
“It moved.”
Qin Zhan spoke.
The Ironclad Dragon, which had appeared to be sleeping in the valley below, slowly raised its head.
Lou Xiaotian immediately covered his mouth.
Fortunately, the beast wasn’t looking in their direction.
“Another demon beast is coming.”
Everyone concealed themselves.
Using the terrain to their advantage, they could clearly observe the scene below.
The newcomer was a bird covered in emerald-green feathers.
Though it was small in size, nobody dared underestimate it.
An Emerald Poison Bird.
Its entire body was saturated with deadly toxins. A single touch meant certain death.
Even Jiang Yunhe had no solution for its poison.
Everyone held their breath.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
The Emerald Poison Bird flapped its wings, maintaining eye level with the Ironclad Dragon’s head as it chirped continuously.
The wind carried over its calls, the crisp notes sounding as pleasant as an oriole’s song.
“Can any of you understand that?”
Lou Xiaotian asked.
He certainly couldn’t.
Qin Zhan and the others shook their heads.
Animal language wasn’t exactly part of their expertise.
Long Zhang, however, scratched his head.
“I think… I can understand a little.”
Although he looked human, he wasn’t actually human, nor was he a pure demon beast.
Perhaps due to some distant bloodline connection stretching back eighty thousand miles, he could vaguely grasp certain meanings hidden within bird calls.
“It seems to be inviting the Ironclad Dragon somewhere to eat something. They’re friends.”
Beasts had friends too.
Not every demon beast lived alone. Some formed groups, others traveled in packs.
“Eat!”
That single word ignited a spark of hope within everyone’s hearts.
The greatest reason they had endured life as mountain hermits was their yearning for Boss Lu’s cooking.
At that moment, the same thought emerged in all their minds.
Could the place these two beasts were heading toward be where Boss Lu was?
The excitement overwhelmed them, causing their emotions to fluctuate and their auras to become unstable.
Below, both beasts turned their heads simultaneously.
“Roar!”
Humans. Should they be dealt with?
The Ironclad Dragon asked the Emerald Poison Bird.
It had discovered these humans long ago; it simply hadn’t cared enough to act.
“No need.”
The Emerald Poison Bird shook its head.
“Lu Bunny is human too.”
A beast friend had previously taken it to try rabbit heads, and the incredible flavor had left such a deep impression that it wanted to share the experience with the Ironclad Dragon.
Every demon beast that had eaten Lu Wu’s rabbit heads knew that she had once willingly pretended to be a rabbit to comfort their emotions.
This was Boss Lu’s love for them.
“Lu Bunny” was the affectionate nickname the demon beasts had given Lu Wu.
Because they loved Lu Bunny, they were also tolerant toward humans.
Of course, if humans sought death themselves, the beasts wouldn’t show any mercy.
After all, Lu Bunny had personally said not to trust humans too much just because of her.
If they deserved killing, then kill them.
Long Zhang, who managed to catch fragments of the conversation, wiped cold sweat from his forehead.
Looking at his completely oblivious companions, he puffed out his chest.
Fine.
He would bear this terror alone.
“So… do we follow them or not?”
The two beasts had already begun moving.
Despite their enormous size, their cultivation allowed them to travel with astonishing speed.
Swift as fleeing rabbits.
If they hesitated any longer, they would lose sight of them entirely.
“Let’s go.”
Qin Zhan took the lead.
They had already come this far.
Since they were lost anyway, they might as well let a blind cat try its luck catching a dead mouse.
The group hurried after the two beasts.
Racing through the mountains, they completely lost all sense of direction.
Left turns, right turns, winding paths—they followed the beasts deeper and deeper.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Earthquake-like tremors spread from the distance toward Lu Wu’s location.
More beasts had arrived.
Lu Wu didn’t care in the slightest.
Beside the food stall, she was using spiritual energy to ease the soreness in her overworked arms before finally setting down her spatula.
Today’s rabbit heads had sold out as well.
Having completed the system’s mission, Lu Wu sat nearby sipping milk tea.
The beasties were helping clean up the stall.
A little squirrel was scrubbing a pot.
Looking at the bit of grease on its paw, it licked it with its tiny tongue.
Rabbit meat was so delicious.
Perhaps because they had hunted rabbits too enthusiastically over the past two days, the nearby rabbit populations were practically gone.
Rabbits: We’ve already moved away!
Upholding the principles of sustainable development, the beasties decided that tomorrow they would hunt farther from home.
Relocated Rabbits: Please don’t come over here!
