“From the Northeast all the way to here, and he still won’t let go. Damn turtle…” After spitting at the corpse, Kong Dalong stripped away the charred remains of the burned clothing. When he saw a triangular scar on the corpse’s chest, an awkward expression appeared on his face.

A rusty dagger suddenly appeared in his hand as if by magic, and he placed its tip against the scar.

Almost the instant the blade touched it, the scar split open. A tiny hand reached out from inside. The child-sized hand had barely emerged before the dagger cut it, causing it to retreat back inside like lightning.

Seeing the hand withdraw, Kong Dalong shifted the dagger and stabbed it into the corpse’s abdomen.

The moment the blade went in, a scream came from inside.

“Ow!”

Then a voice filled with tears cried out from inside the body:

“Kong Dalong, you cut off my bird! I haven’t even gotten married yet! What am I supposed to do now?”

Kong Dalong chuckled.

“Hou San, your Brother Dalong knows what he’s doing. I only nicked your thigh. But if I do it again, I really will cut your bird off. Don’t come out. Whatever you want to say, say it from in there.”

“My bird’s still there…” the voice replied.

“It’s pitch black in here. I just felt a chill near my thigh, and nine out of ten people would think the worst.”

After a pause, he continued:

“Senior Brother Kong, how did you know I was hiding inside the corpse? I already got rid of the smell of death. Even the ghosts down below couldn’t detect me.”

“That’s a secret,” Kong Dalong replied. “If I told you, how would I catch you next time?”

Then he patted the corpse’s abdomen with the dagger and said:

“My turn to ask questions. We haven’t seen each other in over a hundred years. Why have all of you suddenly gone crazy and joined forces against me? If I remember correctly, I’m the one who’s supposed to be hunting you. I spared you all for nearly twenty years, and now the mice have gone mad and are trying to bite the cat?”

Silence came from inside the corpse.

Kong Dalong tapped the abdomen with the dagger again.

“You don’t have to talk, Hou San. If you stay silent, I won’t do anything… at most I’ll cut off your bird.”

As he spoke, the dagger sank into the wound once more.

“AHHH!”

The man inside screamed.

“It’s different now! Half a year ago, he gave a new order. If any of us catch you and then… kill you, all our crimes will be forgiven! We’ll even become official disciples! Senior Brother, you know our masters all received kill orders from him. Sooner or later we’re all going to be erased. Now we finally have such a good opportunity. How could we pass it up?”

“I… received a kill order?”

Kong Dalong could hardly believe his ears.

He sat down on the ground in a daze and remained speechless for a long time.

After waiting for quite a while without hearing anything, the voice inside the corpse spoke again:

“Senior Brother Kong, we’re fellow disciples after all. How about this? Let me go this time. I’ll pretend I never found you, and we can just…”

“AHHH! You cut off my bird!”

Before he could finish speaking, Kong Dalong flipped his wrist and slit open the corpse’s abdomen.

Inside was a naked dwarf.

The cut not only gutted the corpse but also sliced the dwarf’s inner thigh, taking off a little more than skin.

“Sorry about that,” Kong Dalong said calmly. “I did it on purpose.”

With a flick of his hand, he threw the dagger toward the dwarf’s chest.

The dwarf was still clutching his crotch and screaming. Caught completely off guard, he was pierced straight through the heart.

Despite personally killing the dwarf, Kong Dalong showed none of the emotions one would expect from a murderer.

He stared blankly into empty space and muttered to himself:

“So… he really got angry…”

Meanwhile, back at Sun Desheng’s house, everyone was cleaning up the aftermath.

Sun Desheng had taken Yang Shuji to the hospital. Shen La and Zhao Qing were helping Shao Yiyi clean up the mess.

After gathering the broken dishes, Zhao Qing said:

“Sister-in-law, just leave everything by the door. Shen La and I can take it downstairs and throw it away when we leave.”

“You’re still leaving?” Shao Yiyi replied.

“Didn’t we agree already? You’re staying here tonight.”

With a mischievous grin, she added:

“You’ll all be family sooner or later. I already prepared for you to stay. You and Shen La take the guest room. Third Brother, you sleep in the study. If you hear anything during the night, don’t come out.”

She was speaking to Che Qianzi.

Perhaps after spending so many years with Sun Desheng, she had picked up some of his personality.

Both Shen La and Zhao Qing blushed.

Seeing his girlfriend embarrassed, Shen La hurriedly said:

“It’s her first time here. Don’t scare Little Zhao. Not everyone’s as shameless as your Sun Dasheng. Little Zhao, it’s getting late. I’ll take you home. Yiyi, we won’t wait for Dasheng. Tell him for me when he gets back.”

Seeing Shen La and Zhao Qing preparing to leave, Che Qianzi blinked and stood up as well.

“Then give me a ride too. Sister-in-law, sorry about tonight. I’ve wanted to beat up that Yang guy for a long time. I just couldn’t hold back. Hope I didn’t scare Xiao Wu.”

“Third Brother, sit down. You’re not going anywhere either. And you two…”

Shao Yiyi blocked the doorway.

“Scared? Didn’t you see her clapping happily just now? I have no idea who she takes after, but that girl loves watching fights.”

She continued:

“We agreed—nobody leaves. When Fatty gets back, you can continue drinking with him. He quit his job today. Keep him company.”

Remembering how different Sun Desheng had seemed after leaving the airport, Shen La and Che Qianzi exchanged glances.

Naturally, they should stay with him.

But Zhao Qing was still an outsider. It didn’t seem right to drag her into this.

Just as Shen La was considering taking Zhao Qing home first and then coming back himself, Sun Desheng finally returned, strolling in leisurely.

Seeing everyone gathered by the door, he laughed.

“What’s this? Planning to continue drinking at the entrance?”

“You’re all trying to leave, aren’t you?”

“No one’s going anywhere. I just quit my job and suffered a huge blow. What if I can’t think straight and jump off a building? Your consciences would torment you for the rest of your lives.”

“Bah, bah, bah! Shut that filthy mouth of yours!” Shao Yiyi interrupted immediately.

Then she asked:

“How’s Yang Shuji? He should be fine, right? When the ambulance carried him away, he was still cursing our brother with plenty of energy. He’s not dead, is he?”

“He’s fine.”

Sun Desheng chuckled.

“Say what you will, Yang Shuji is devoted to the Bureau. Aside from being a bit petty, he’s not a bad person.”

Then he winked at Shen La.

“La Zi, take Little Zhao back to the table. I ordered another banquet on my way home. It’ll arrive any minute. Little Zhao, hurry and call your family. Tell them one of your friends got fired and wants to jump off a building. You’re staying to talk him out of it, so you won’t be coming home tonight.”

As he spoke, Sun Desheng grinned and made a face at Shen La.

Zhao Qing’s face instantly turned as red as a piece of cloth.

Dragged back to the dining table by Sun Desheng and Shao Yiyi, Zhao Qing had no choice but to stay.

Shen La could only follow helplessly.

Before long, the restaurant downstairs delivered another lavish feast.

Without Yang Shuji around, everyone ate and drank much more happily.

After several rounds of wine, Zhao Qing also became a little tipsy.

Taking advantage of her drunken courage, she said to Sun Desheng:

“I heard Shen La say… that your department handles unusual cases?”

“Well…”

“I happen to have a rather strange case recently…”
