BPIFC -Volume 1 – Chapter 57 Returning to the Resort

Bureau of Paranormal Investigation: The Final Chapter 6 min read 57 of 116 3

After arriving at the presidential suite, Che Qianzi once again had his horizons broadened. There was a bathtub large enough to seat four people around a mahjong table, a living room bigger than the entire Jizhen Taoist Temple, and an enormous bed even larger than his own room.

Sun Desheng and Yang Xiao each chose one of the side bedrooms to rest in, leaving most of the presidential suite for Che Qianzi to explore.

That night, the young Taoist busied himself everywhere. He soaked in the giant bathtub for two hours, then wandered around the living room for more than another hour. He had originally planned to sleep on the big bed, but by the time dawn approached, he was too exhausted and simply collapsed in the living room and fell asleep.

He slept until noon the next day. In the end, Sun Desheng, who had run out of patience, woke him up.

“Brother… Brother, wake up. It’s about time to go. Boss Wan is throwing us out.”

After seeing Che Qianzi groggily wake up, Sun Desheng smiled and continued:

“We booked a flight for two-thirty. Get up, wash up, grab something to eat, and we’ll head out. They’re waiting to clear the room.”

It turned out that early in the morning, after Wan Changluo learned that Sun Desheng had handed the initiative over to Huang Ran, his enthusiasm toward the three of them had greatly diminished. At eleven o’clock, the front desk had already called to inform them that the presidential suite had been booked by someone else, and they had to vacate before noon.

There was no grand treatment like when they had arrived. Ma Xiaolin could not even be found, let alone provide cars or private jets.

Sun Desheng wasn’t petty enough to argue with rich people. He booked commercial tickets himself, packed up with Yang Xiao, and then woke Che Qianzi to leave the resort.

After understanding what had happened, Che Qianzi became annoyed and refused to eat there. After a quick wash, he got dressed and left with Sun Desheng and Yang Xiao.

Passing through the lobby, they saw several foreigners carrying large crates toward the unfinished third phase of the resort—the area where the incident had occurred.

Sun Desheng’s English was fairly good. From the markings on the crates, he recognized them as belonging to a famous American high-tech robotics company, which had ranked first among technology companies the previous year.

“Huang Ran’s really expanded over the past few years. He’s even using robots now. Looks like he prepared for this long ago.”

Sun Desheng smiled while looking at the foreigners. He wanted to go over and take a closer look, but seeing that even the waiters were no longer very welcoming to them—and with a flight to catch—he suppressed his curiosity and boarded a taxi to the airport.

Young people get hungry quickly. Though they had eaten well after midnight, more than ten hours had passed. About forty minutes into the ride, Che Qianzi’s eyes were practically turning green from hunger.

Sun Desheng told the driver to stop at a nearby restaurant so they could eat before heading to the airport.

As expected of Guangzhou, the city of gourmet food, even a random restaurant served delicious dishes. Sun Desheng ordered several items that could be prepared quickly.

Che Qianzi had only taken a few bites when Sun Desheng’s phone rang.

Seeing the caller ID, Sun Desheng froze.

“Old Ma calling at a time like this? Could something have happened? Chairman Ma, what’s this? Planning to give me that private jet after all—”

Before he could finish, Ma Xiaolin’s panicked voice exploded from the phone:

“Disaster! Something’s happened! Director Sun, come back immediately! Disaster! Huang Ran’s in trouble! He led people into the ancient tomb, and then there was a huge explosion! Half the resort collapsed! It’s terrible!”

Sun Desheng’s expression changed instantly.

While asking Ma Xiaolin for details, he rushed out of the restaurant with Che Qianzi and Yang Xiao and jumped back into the taxi.

“Back to the resort! As fast as possible! Floor it! I’ll pay you ten times the fare!”

Over the phone, Ma Xiaolin couldn’t explain clearly what had happened below.

After Sun Desheng’s group had left, Huang Ran, Meng Qiqi, Zhang Zhiyan, and a team of people of various nationalities had entered the tomb.

At first everything went smoothly. Artifacts were continuously being brought out.

But just five minutes earlier, something suddenly changed.

The personnel remaining above ground lost radio contact with Huang Ran and the others. Just as they were preparing to enter and assist, a massive explosion erupted inside the tomb.

The violent blast caused Sections D and E of the resort to collapse.

Fortunately, following Huang Ran’s earlier instructions, guests and staff had already been evacuated from those areas, preventing major casualties.

Driven by Sun Desheng’s repeated promises of extra money, the driver completed what should have been a forty-minute trip in just over twenty minutes.

When they returned to the resort, police and firefighters had already arrived, and the entire area was cordoned off.

Ma Xiaolin and Boss Wan were explaining the situation to the investigating officers. Upon seeing Sun Desheng’s group return, the two hurriedly waved and brought them inside the police line.

Sun Desheng had no mood for small talk.

Before being questioned, he declared:

“I’m Sun Desheng, Director of the Emergency Affairs Office under the Ministry of Public Security. My number is 010-xxxxxxx. Verify my identity through that number. These two are my colleagues.”

The title alone was enough to intimidate the young officer.

While reporting the information, the officer asked:

“You’re a ministry official. Why are you here? How much do you know about the accident inside?”

Squinting his eyes, Sun Desheng replied:

“Your bureau chief wouldn’t dare speak to me like that.”

“Report to your superiors. Tell them Director Sun Desheng of the Emergency Affairs Office demands command authority over this scene.”

“Immediately.”

Before the young officer could answer, his phone rang.

After only a few sentences, his expression toward Sun Desheng completely changed.

Once he hung up, he saluted respectfully.

“All personnel from the district Public Security Bureau are under Director Sun’s command. We originally received reports of a gas explosion, but after arriving on scene discovered discrepancies and are investigating suspicious circumstances. Medical teams have already entered the site to rescue survivors.”

“Who allowed the medical teams inside? Get them out immediately!”

Sun Desheng’s expression changed.

“Withdraw everyone who doesn’t absolutely need to be there. Without my authorization, nobody enters!”

Before he could finish, a van stopped outside the cordon.

Several burly men climbed out and unloaded three large cases.

Seeing Sun Desheng directing operations, one of them squeezed through the crowd and shouted from outside the police line:

“Great Sage! It’s me! I brought the equipment you requested! What happened inside? Such a huge commotion! Did you predict all this beforehand?”

The newcomer was Xiao Yifeng, deputy director of the Fifth Division.

Only then did Sun Desheng remember that he had requested three sets of equipment from headquarters the previous night. Because the gear was highly specialized, regulations required a deputy director or above to personally escort it.

“I completely forgot about it. But this worked out perfectly…”

After signing the paperwork Xiao Yifeng handed him, Sun Desheng turned to Yang Xiao and Che Qianzi.

“One set each. Go get ready.”

“If we’re lucky, Old Huang might still have a chance.”

“That one-third share of the profits…”

“…wasn’t easy to earn.”

Before Sun Desheng could finish speaking, the medical team emerged from the ruins.

On their stretcher lay a person burned from head to toe.

The man’s entire face had been blown away.

No one could tell who he was anymore.
