After finishing all these matters, Sun Desheng returned to his office in a somewhat exhausted state.

He didn’t turn on the lights. Under the pale moonlight streaming in from outside the window, he sat down at his desk.

He had already agreed with Shou Yiyi that once his wife got home, she would contact Wu Rendi. So at this point, Sun Fatty wasn’t worried that Director Wu would suddenly come charging over.

After sitting in a daze for a while, Sun Desheng picked up the phone and called the fake Jiao Dalang in Hangzhou.

As soon as the call connected, before Sun Fatty could even speak, an angry voice came through:

“Do you know what time it is? Do you know who I am? Do you know the consequences of disturbing me at this hour—”

“It’s me, Sun Desheng. We met at that old house a few days ago. Yes, that Sun Desheng,” he interrupted with a grin.

“Tell Jiao the old man this: tell him he’s remembered everything. Tell him to come to Beijing immediately. Word for word—don’t miss a single syllable.”

Without waiting for a response, Sun Desheng hung up.

Finally finishing all the tasks at hand, he collapsed onto the sofa and fell into a deep sleep while still holding the appraisal report in his arms.

Not long after he fell asleep, a white-haired man appeared inside the office out of nowhere.

A beam of moonlight fell on him, revealing his somewhat sharp, cold face.

It was none other than Wu Rendi, who had just left Sun Fatty’s home.

Wu Rendi slowly walked up to Sun Desheng and looked down at the sleeping fat man with his eyes half-lidded.

He was about to summon lightning to wake him up—but then he noticed the file bag tightly held in Sun Desheng’s arms.

Still clutching it even in sleep? What exactly is so important?

Curiosity arose.

Wu Rendi canceled the lightning technique, took the file bag from Sun Desheng’s hands, and opened it under the moonlight.

On it was written:

DNA comparison report between Wu Rendi and Che Qianzi.

“Still playing tricks…”

Even after seeing the report, Wu Rendi still didn’t believe it.

Whether he had a son or not—wouldn’t he know that himself?

This must be another scheme Sun Desheng cooked up to blackmail him.

Thinking this, Wu Rendi decided to let the fat man off for now. He wanted to see what other tricks he had.

He placed the file bag back into Sun Desheng’s arms and silently left the office.

Sun Desheng slept until mid-morning, only waking up around ten o’clock when sunlight hit his face.

After a moment of confusion, he noticed he was still holding the file bag.

He frowned and muttered:

“Didn’t come last night? How am I supposed to deliver this to Director Wu now? This is troublesome…”

He thought for a moment:

“Old Huang just got offended… can’t dump this black pot on him again. Yang Xiao and Yang Jun won’t work either. Tu An doesn’t like taking risks… maybe Yang Shuji? I heard you’ve got a good relationship with Director Wu…”

While he was thinking, there was a knock on the door.

He opened it to find Section Chief Ren and Yang Shuji standing outside.

They came in and sat down casually on the sofa.

Yang Shuji smiled and said, “We were just trying our luck. We also want to borrow your office for a quick meeting among the three senior leaders of the bureau.”

Before Sun Desheng could respond politely, they were already seated.

Ren Cheng said, “It’s almost noon already. Anyway, the higher-ups rejected our year-end banquet proposal. They told us not to make too much noise. So let’s just hold it in our own cafeteria tonight. Everyone’s been working hard all year—let them relax a bit.”

Yang Shuji added, “Same idea. No need for extravagance this year. What do you think, Director Sun?”

“I’m just the third-in-command. You two decide,” Sun Desheng replied with a grin.

Just then, his phone rang.

A familiar voice came through:

“Boss Sun, the thing you asked me to handle is moving. Jiao Dalang from Hangzhou took the first flight this morning and has already met Director Wu. I don’t dare investigate what they talked about—you should understand the rest yourself.”

Hearing this, Sun Desheng’s eyes lit up.

“Got it. I owe you one big favor, Brother Zheng. I’ll treat you to braised pork intestines when you’re free.”

He hung up and exhaled deeply.

Looking at the two leaders in front of him, he suddenly said:

“Do either of you know anyone who sells insurance?”

After sending the two leaders off, Sun Desheng grew increasingly uneasy.

He stared at the file bag on his desk, feeling bitter.

Originally, according to his plan, Wu Rendi should have taken the report last night while he was asleep.

Now Jiao Dalang had arrived in Beijing to explain what happened back then, and with the evidence plus the DNA report, even if Wu Rendi didn’t believe it, he would have to face the possibility that Che Qianzi was his son.

But now the most critical piece of evidence was still in his hands.

It was too late to ask Yang Shuji to deliver it.

If mishandled, Wu Rendi might think they were working together to deceive him.

How did he forget that the messenger he contacted last night had already arranged for Jiao Dalang to arrive this morning?

He cursed himself inwardly.

While he was still hesitating, Shen La returned with Che Qianzi, whose face was covered in medicinal ointment.

As soon as he entered, Shen La said:

“Boss Sun, we just saw Yang Shuji. Why is tonight’s dinner in the cafeteria? That’s a bit shabby…”

“Shabby or not, I don’t care anymore,” Sun Desheng said.

He pulled Shen La and Che Qianzi into the office and said:

“La Zi, if something happens to me, please take care of Shou Yiyi and my niece.”

“I’ve got sixteen bank cards. Ten are known to Yiyi. The other six are hidden in the bureau’s basement level two…”

Shen La blinked.

“Boss Sun… what’s wrong with you?”

He glanced at Che Qianzi and suddenly understood something, then lowered his voice:

“So the result wasn’t father and son? Then… Boss Sun, you might as well be preparing your funeral arrangements…”

Che Qianzi frowned at them suspiciously.

Sun Desheng waved his hand.

“Forget it… maybe it’s not as bad as I think.”

He stood up.

“Brother, come with me to the basement. I’ve stored something there—you help me keep an eye on it.”

With that, Sun Desheng took Che Qianzi downstairs to the basement, leaving the file bag behind with Shen La.
