Early the next morning, Sun Desheng arrived at the hospital to visit Che Qianzi.

He saw Shen La and Zhao Qing curled up on the companion bed, just waking up.

Sun Fatty chuckled.

“Hey, behave a little, you two are here to take care of a patient. How did you end up sleeping together? Our third brother is still young—this kind of thing is not appropriate for him to see…”

“Big Saint, you’re talking nonsense again…” Shen La said quickly when he saw his girlfriend blush. “Xiao Zhao stayed here with me to look after Third Brother last night and even brought a big fruit basket. You didn’t bring us breakfast, so we just ate some fruit.”

“I just came from the Bureau myself, how would I have time to buy breakfast? You two should just go eat at the hospital cafeteria,” Sun Desheng said with a grin.

Then he glanced at Zhao Qing and continued:

“You two go eat. I’ll stay and watch over Third Brother.”

“Brother, I heard you woke up last night. Listen to me—rest a few more days. Later I’ll get Wu Rendi to deal with Yang Xiao. That Old Yang went too far, even dared to lay hands on our Third Brother. He’s gone too far.”

“Forget it. I think it was that pretty boy who ordered him,” Che Qianzi said, lying in bed.

“Think about it—does Yang Xiao dare ignore you, the bureau chief? If someone didn’t give him permission, I, Che Qianzi, will chop my head off and use it as a ball for their future kid to kick…”

He pointed at Shen La and Zhao Qing.

Zhao Qing blushed again.

“Spit it out! Don’t say such unlucky things—you’ll scare our future child!”

“Alright, alright, you admit it now?” Che Qianzi grinned. “Hurry up and get married. I’m waiting to be the best man.”

“You should go register today. Then wedding, baby, and New Year all together.”

Shen La laughed and kicked the bed lightly.

“Third Brother, stop messing around. Don’t embarrass Xiao Zhao—her face is already red enough.”

“Fine, fine,” Che Qianzi said. “Anyway, I don’t understand you adults.”

After a few more jokes, Shen La and Zhao Qing went to the hospital cafeteria for breakfast.

Once they were gone, Sun Desheng turned to Che Qianzi.

“Oh right, almost forgot something important. The Fifth Division’s Ouyang Pianzuo is going to forge new life talismans. Everyone needs to contribute blood. I’ll have the nurse draw some from you later.”

“My blood? Yesterday I was bleeding all over the floor—you couldn’t have used that?” Che Qianzi said helplessly. “Fine, just draw it.”

Then he added:

“Fatty, Shen La and Xiao Zhao were talking about marriage last night. I don’t know your rules—how much should I give as a wedding gift? Should I give them ten or eight gold ingots? And when they have kids later, do I have to give again?”

“Shen La isn’t short on money. Just give what you feel like,” Sun Desheng said with a grin. “I’ll give 2,000, you give 1,500.”

“But marriage means both families meet. Shen La’s parents are in the Northeast. Did Xiao Zhao ever say anything about her family?”

“How would I know? They probably talked about it in bed last night,” Che Qianzi replied casually.

At that moment, a nurse came in with a cart.

After confirming Che Qianzi’s identity, she drew a test tube of blood without hesitation.

Soon after, the nurse received a call, asked for Sun Desheng, and handed him the tube of blood.

After taking it, Sun Desheng didn’t stay long. He left after greeting them when Shen La and the others returned.

But he didn’t leave the hospital immediately.

He returned to his car, sent a message, and waited quietly in the driver’s seat.

Not long after, Zhao Qing arrived at the parking lot and got into the passenger seat.

Neither of them spoke for a full minute.

Finally, Zhao Qing spoke first.

“I know I couldn’t hide it forever. I just didn’t expect you to find out so soon.”

“Are you taking me back to the Bureau now? Can you… no, forget it. Once I go to the Bureau, there’s no way I can hide it from Shen La…”

Her eyes turned red, tears streaming down.

Sun Desheng didn’t look at her. His expression had completely changed.

Like he was talking to himself, he said slowly:

“Whoever sent you, whatever you were planning—I won’t pursue it anymore.”

“But from this moment on—it’s over. Everything is over.”

“You leave on your own. I’ll handle the rest—car crash, sudden illness, whatever. I’ll make Shen La believe you’re dead. And you can never appear again. Understand?”

Zhao Qing trembled, tears falling harder.

Her lips moved as if she wanted to explain, to say she never meant to harm them.

But before she could speak—

“Don’t think about it anymore,” Sun Desheng cut her off. “It’s finished.”

She nodded silently.

Then she opened the door and got out without another word.

She hesitated for a moment, as if wanting to look back at Shen La one last time.

But in the end, she turned away and walked out of the hospital without looking back.

Sun Desheng started the car and drove toward the Bureau.

Back at the Supervision Bureau, he did not return to his office first.

Instead, he went to the Fifth Division and handed the blood sample to Deputy Director Xiao Yifeng.

“Keep this safe. The day after tomorrow I’ll bring you another sample. Remember—strict confidentiality. Don’t mix them up.”

Xiao Yifeng nodded.

“I’ll put it in the fridge. No one will find it.”

Then he lowered his voice:

“Big Saint… whose DNA is this? Don’t tell me you secretly have a kid with the Shao family and are now checking if it’s yours?”

“If that were the case, I wouldn’t be sending blood,” Sun Desheng said. “I’d be sending my corpse for you to dissect.”

He then asked:

“Old Xiao, have Guang Ren and Huoshan been looking for you lately?”

“Last night,” Xiao Yifeng replied quietly. “They asked me to meet them on a rooftop in Sanlitun, but when I arrived, the Grand Master was already gone. No message left.”

Sun Desheng nodded slightly.

“Be careful. Those two will probably come again.”

Then he added:

“Keep this sample safe. I’ll bring another one the day after tomorrow.”
