Just like that, Che Qianzi left Hangzhou in a confused haze, accompanied by his two “brothers.”
Before returning to Beiping, Shen La went to the hotel to pick up his girlfriend. The four of them boarded a plane together and left the city.
On the plane, Zhao Qing was somewhat dissatisfied with the trip to Hangzhou. They had only arrived last night, slept in the hotel, and hadn’t visited West Lake, Lingyin Temple, or Leifeng Pagoda at all. How were they already heading back right after waking up?
And something about Shen La felt off too. He had originally had some reservations about Che Qianzi, yet after just one night, he seemed to have become his real brother. Watching her boyfriend’s unusually close attitude toward the young Taoist, Zhao Qing felt a little sour.
Shen La noticed her mood and quickly tried to comfort her.
“Next time we’ll come again. I’ll properly accompany you for a few days.”
“It’s fine,” Zhao Qing said with a smile. “Besides, you were here for official business. I was the one insisting on coming.”
She leaned close to his ear.
“Next time, let’s not come to Hangzhou. You’ll travel the world with me… somewhere with no one else… just you and me.”
Shen La’s face turned slightly red at her words.
“Alright. Yang Xiao just bought a small island in the Caribbean. We can go stay there for a few days—just the two of us…”
As he spoke, he subconsciously glanced toward the front of the cabin where Che Qianzi was seated in business class.
His words were directed at his girlfriend—but his eyes drifted toward another man.
That made Zhao Qing feel even more uncomfortable. She let out a soft hum and said casually:
“You brothers really do have a deep bond. Even I’m a little jealous. Good thing you’re not actual brothers—otherwise I wouldn’t even have a place.”
Shen La hurriedly tried to soothe her.
“Why are you even jealous over something like this? It’s not what you think… honestly, I still haven’t fully processed it. What happened this morning feels like more than what happened the entire past year.”
“Forget it. When we get back to Beiping, I’ll take a few days off and go with you to Tibet. Didn’t you always want to see the Potala Palace?”
Zhao Qing perked up at that.
“What happened? I knew something was off about you.”
She leaned in again, lowering her voice:
“You’re way too close to Che Qianzi now. Calling him ‘third brother’ all the time—more enthusiastic than Sun Dasheng. Honestly, someone who didn’t know better would think you two are real brothers, and Sun Dasheng is the adopted one.”
She giggled at her own joke.
Shen La panicked and quickly covered her mouth.
“Stop talking nonsense. If Sun Dasheng hears you, we’re done for.”
Then, quietly by her ear, he said:
“It’s just… I learned a bit about Che Qianzi’s background. That’s all. It shocked me.”
Zhao Qing immediately became curious again.
“You can’t do that! Half-tell and stop—it’s torture. What is it? Tell me. I swear I won’t tell anyone. My mouth is tight—even dead people wouldn’t hear a word from me.”
After some coaxing, Shen La finally gave in.
But he warned her repeatedly:
“You must not tell anyone. Not a single person. At least not until it’s officially confirmed.”
Then he told her the truth about Che Qianzi’s identity.
Zhao Qing’s eyes widened in shock.
“That’s… insane. Even novels wouldn’t dare write something like that.”
“Don’t worry. My mouth has a lock on it. I won’t tell anyone. This is too big…”
After that, she never mentioned it again for the rest of the flight.
Back in Beiping, Shen La personally escorted her home. Before leaving, he reminded her once more not to tell anyone—not even her parents.
After watching him leave, Zhao Qing did not return to her home immediately.
Instead, she went upstairs.
She took a key from above the doorframe and quietly unlocked the room.
Inside, a white-haired man sat on the sofa.
It was the Great Master of White Hair—Guang Ren.
He appeared not to notice her entry, calmly reading a book. Occasionally, he chuckled softly at something amusing.
Only after a moment did he close the book and glance at her.
“So,” he said with a faint smile, “was Hangzhou fun?”
Zhao Qing respectfully bowed.
“Master… this trip to Hangzhou revealed something extremely significant. You may not believe it…”
“Whether I believe it or not, you still have to say it,” Guang Ren replied calmly. “After so many years, I’ve seen too many major events. Nothing really surprises me anymore.”
“Speak.”
Zhao Qing hesitated.
Then she bowed again.
“Forgive your disciple for offending you, Great Master.”
She stepped forward and whispered everything Shen La had told her—word for word.
When he heard that Che Qianzi was actually the child of Wu Rendi, even Guang Ren’s expression froze in shock, as if he had seen a ghost.
After a full minute, he finally recovered—but still couldn’t believe it.
“You’re sure?” he asked. “This isn’t Sun Desheng’s scheme to mislead us?”
Zhao Qing replied:
“I am ninety percent certain. And Shen La’s attitude toward Che Qianzi changed drastically overnight. If it weren’t related to Wu Rendi, he would never act like that… he wouldn’t lie to me.”
Hearing this, Guang Ren still found it hard to accept that Wu Rendi had a son.
After a long silence, he said:
“Understood. Go rest. Do not investigate this matter further. Be careful it’s not Sun Desheng testing you.”
“Also—do not tell anyone else. Not even Huoshan.”
Zhao Qing obeyed and left.
After she was gone, Guang Ren stared out into the approaching night and murmured to himself:
“How could he have a son…?”
“How is that possible… a son…”
“He is also a white-haired immortal… how could he possibly have a son?”
Meanwhile, Sun Desheng had already returned to the Bureau with Che Qianzi.
On the balcony, Wu Rendi and Yang Xiao stood watching as the young Taoist, who never learned his lesson, was once again playing with the large white dog at the entrance.
Wu Rendi said slowly:
“The more I look at this kid, the more unpleasant he seems.”
“Yang Xiao… aren’t you going to do something about it?”
