After seeing the photo of Kong Dalong, Che Qianzi still tried to defend his master a bit.

“It—it is him, that old bastard. But that doesn’t prove anything, right? So what if he came to Hangzhou? Is Hangzhou supposed to welcome him or something? This photo only proves he was here twenty years ago. Look, he’s standing by West Lake, just sightseeing like anyone else…”

Seeing Che Qianzi speaking up for Kong Dalong, Sun Desheng smiled faintly.

“I didn’t say anything else either. I was just—”

Before he could finish, his phone rang again.

The phone was still in Che Qianzi’s hand. The young Taoist subconsciously swiped the screen, and another image came through.

It was still Kong Dalong by West Lake—but this time, another person appeared beside him.

A black-haired Wu Rendi.

In the image, the two were standing face to face, seemingly talking.

After seeing it, Che Qianzi fell silent for a moment, then handed the phone back.

“It’s photoshopped. Obviously edited,” he said seriously. “Fatty, this is clearly foreign hostile forces trying to destroy our organization from within. Some AFP, some CIA stuff—these fake images are meant to stir internal chaos. You understand what I mean, right?”

“I understand… I understand you’re just trying to give Kong Dalong an excuse,” said Shen La. Unlike Sun Desheng, he didn’t indulge the boy’s temper. “Whether the photo is fake can be verified. And whether Kong Dalong is the person Director Wu is looking for—that should also be investigated.”

“Who are you calling ‘our Third Brother’?” Che Qianzi snapped immediately. “You’re Shen, he’s Sun, I’m Cai! We don’t share the same father or mother, so stop talking nonsense!”

Seeing that Shen La wasn’t siding with him, Che Qianzi’s temper flared. He pointed at Shen La and shouted:

“I don’t believe any of this! And don’t try to trick me with these photos. Sun Desheng, I don’t want your gold anymore—and I don’t want those three suitcases of ingots either. Consider it interest. From now on, we don’t know each other!”

With that, he kicked the door open and stormed downstairs.

Sun Desheng looked conflicted and was about to chase after him, but Shen La stopped him.

“Big Saint, don’t waste your kindness on someone who won’t listen right now. He won’t hear anything you say.”

“Shen La, you don’t understand…” Sun Desheng sighed. “Forget it. Let him go report to Kong Dalong. I just hope that idiot doesn’t get into trouble.”

Shen La frowned. “Big Saint, I know you’re biased toward him, but this kid is too reckless. You should report Kong Dalong’s situation to Director Wu.”

Sun Desheng gave him a strange look.

“Report it to Director Wu… and then what?”

Shen La paused. “That depends on what Director Wu intends to do. If Kong Dalong harmed him twenty years ago, then that old Taoist won’t end well.”

Sun Desheng walked to the window.

Only after confirming no one was upstairs did he speak again.

“Director Wu probably lost part of his memory from that time in Hangzhou,” he said slowly. “My guess is that when he came back recently, he ran into Jiao Dalang. Jiao accidentally let something slip, but Director Wu still couldn’t remember it. Now if Kong Dalong is involved… and he believes Kong Dalong caused his memory loss…”

He turned slightly.

“Shen La, guess what Director Wu would do?”

“If that kid loses control and something goes wrong… even a tiger doesn’t eat its cubs.”

The last seven words made Shen La’s eyes widen.

“What did you just say?! Cub? You mean Che Qianzi is—impossible!”

“Why impossible?” Sun Desheng shrugged. “Think about it. If Director Wu had grown up like our Third Brother—no parents, bullied as a kid, surviving on his own—wouldn’t he turn out exactly like him?”

“And the power inside that kid—besides that ‘person fishing in the sea,’ who else could it belong to? Either that, or it’s our Director Wu.”

Shen La was stunned into silence.

After a long pause, he finally said, “That’s too much information… I can’t process it. Big Saint, what else do you know? Just tell me everything at once.”

Sun Desheng lit a cigarette and handed one to him.

“Back then, why did Gao Liang travel all the way to the Northeast and spend so much money raising our Third Brother and supporting Kong Dalong? When he predicted his own death, he still entrusted the kid to Ma Xiaolin. If Third Brother wasn’t Director Wu’s child, would Gao Liang go that far?”

“And that last time Director Wu hosted dinner—after you left, me and Third Brother got ambushed. Kong Dalong resolved it, and even dragged in a lower judge from the underworld. That guy didn’t dare touch Third Brother either.”

“Why?”

“Because he saw Third Brother’s Book of Life and Death copy. Someone who can make even a lower judge fear him… is either the child of that ‘sea fisherman,’ or Director Wu’s son.”

Shen La’s mind was already in chaos.

“The ‘sea fisherman’… why couldn’t it be his child? Maybe Third Brother’s surname is Xu, not Wu?”

Sun Desheng smiled faintly.

“Shen La… think carefully. Between Director Wu and that man—who exactly could Third Brother belong to?”

Shen La finally understood.

He rushed toward the door.

“What are you doing?” Sun Desheng called after him.

“I’m going to bring that ancestor back.”

Sun Desheng sighed as he watched him leave. Then he realized something—his phone was gone.

“Hey! Bring my phone back too—and don’t tell anyone!”

Shen La was already gone.

Now the room was left with only Sun Desheng.

He sat down heavily on the bed, noticing a cigarette butt still in his hand. He stood up again to throw it away—but then froze.

On the bedside table… there was another cigarette butt.

A hand-rolled tobacco stub.

Neither he nor Shen La smoked that kind of cigarette.

And it hadn’t been there when he left yesterday.

Sun Desheng’s expression changed instantly.

He forced himself to remain calm and muttered:

“No… I need to follow them. If Shen La runs his mouth, things will get worse…”

Just as he turned to leave—

The wardrobe door slowly opened on its own.

An old man stepped out.

Kong Dalong smiled as he clapped his hands lightly.

“As expected of the Sun Bureau… nothing escapes your eyes.”
