The old man no longer paid attention to Sun Desheng and turned to walk back inside the house. At that moment, his third son brought people over, carrying the dishes and aged liquor that the old man had previously ordered prepared. Sensing the tense atmosphere, the third son wasn’t sure whether to retreat or continue serving and froze in place.

“Mr. Sun hasn’t had dinner yet, right? Just some simple rural dishes—please have a bite,” the old man said, turning back and signaling his son to continue serving. Then he added, “Old Three, after Mr. Sun finishes eating, drive him back to Hangzhou. He’s a busy man—don’t let him waste time in our countryside.”

Only then did Old Three instruct the servants to place the dishes in front of Sun Desheng. The chubby Sun smiled and said to the old man, “You’re too polite. Was Director Wu treated like this last time he came? He’s picky with food—this won’t do, that won’t do… Twenty years ago, was he also treated like this? If Director Wu didn’t eat, surely his friends would have eaten something, right?”

The old man had already reached the doorway. Hearing this, he couldn’t help but turn back and say, “Go ask Kong Dalong. He knows about that matter too. He’s hidden for so many years—it’s time he came out and took some responsibility.”

“It was Kong Dalong who told me to come find you. What a coincidence—you just said exactly what he said too,” Sun Desheng chuckled as he poured himself a cup of yellow rice wine and drank it in one gulp. “Good wine! Thirty-year-old Zhuangyuan Red, right? Excellent… Kong Dalong also said that you, Jiao Dalang, have been hiding for so many years—it’s time you came out and made things clear.”

“Make things clear…” the old man sighed deeply. Then he said to his third son, “Old Three, take good care of Mr. Sun. After he finishes eating, send him back. Also tell the gatekeeper that starting tomorrow, I will not receive guests for a month.”

With that, the old man left the hall and walked toward the inner rooms.

Watching him disappear, Sun Desheng no longer pressed the matter. Smiling, he said to Old Three, “Eating and drinking alone is no fun—why don’t you join me? I’m not flattering you, but your Hangzhou dishes are truly authentic. And the wine is excellent… just hope there’s enough. Don’t halfway through tell me it’s gone. Otherwise, I’ll have to go back and eat noodles to fill my stomach.”

“Our family always serves enough food and drink. If it’s not enough, I’ll have the kitchen prepare more,” Old Three replied, his tone carrying some contempt. He just wanted to send this man away quickly and avoid upsetting the old master.

Sun Desheng didn’t mind at all. He just smiled and said, “Enough is fine.”

Before returning to his bedroom, the old man went to check on the still-sleeping Che Qianzi. Seeing the boy’s flushed face and soft snoring, and recalling that he had already vomited once earlier (which the servants had cleaned up), the old man finally felt relieved.

He said to the half-grown boy still asleep, “In the future, you will become an extraordinary figure. Perhaps even my entire family will depend on you someday…”

One of the attendants beside him couldn’t help asking, “Old Master, is he really the son of that gentleman from the sea? Are we supposed to send him overseas this time? I can arrange it…”

“Old Four, I’ll say this one more time—do not inquire about his background,” the old man said coldly, glaring at him. “Whether he goes overseas or not is not for me to decide, and even less for you. You are not my biological son, but I don’t want you to die early because of your curiosity.”

Those words made Old Four break out in cold sweat.

The old man sighed. “After he wakes up tomorrow, send him back. I originally intended to host him for a few days, but now it seems he is like a spark—ready to ignite at any moment. If this fire starts, our Jiao family cannot withstand it.”

After giving more instructions, he left the room and headed toward his own quarters. Before he even arrived, his third son rushed over in panic and said, “Please come take a look—something’s wrong. That fat man is drunk. He’s making a scene in the front hall and refuses to leave.”

“Drunk?” the old man frowned. “How long has it been? He got drunk after just one bottle? Ignore him—throw him out.”

“It wasn’t just one bottle… he drank nine bottles of aged liquor himself…” the third son said bitterly. “After you left, he finished one bottle, then asked for two more… then finished those too… I kept bringing more…”

Before he could finish, the old man slapped him hard.

Smack! The third son was knocked to the ground.

Without another word, the old man headed toward the hall.

Even before reaching it, he heard Sun Desheng’s voice shouting:

“Sun Desheng, come out! Still pretending to be dead? Forgot how you used to follow Wu Rendi around begging for scraps? Let me tell you—he’s now working under me… I’m his current chief! He even gave me women to please me… Don’t act so superior… You think I don’t know what happened back then? He even dyed his hair black himself and hid in that little room—urgh—blegh!”

Midway through his speech, Sun Desheng suddenly squatted down and began vomiting violently.

By the time the old man arrived, the hall was in complete chaos. Several servants were cleaning up.

“Everyone out,” the old man said coldly. “No one is allowed in without my permission.”

After clearing the room, he walked up to Sun Desheng and said through gritted teeth, “You did this on purpose. You’re trying to spread these matters so it looks like it came from my house, aren’t you? You’re truly vicious…”

Sun Desheng, still sitting on the ground with drunken eyes, grinned foolishly. Then he staggered to his feet, pointed at him, and said:

“Isn’t this Uncle Gui? Me, Sun Desheng… we just met in America, remember? Let me tell you something… don’t tell anyone… that shameless Jiao Dalang who pretended to be Xu Fu did some very disgraceful things… I don’t even want to say it… He deceived young girls, cheated money and affection, even ran a matchmaking racket…”

The old man’s face turned ashen.

“Enough. Stop pretending. What do you want?”

He originally thought Sun Desheng wanted to dig out what happened back then. Unexpectedly, the chubby man suddenly chuckled.

“I don’t want anything else,” he said. “Tell me about Kong Dalong.”

Hearing this, the old man blinked in confusion. “You don’t want to know what happened back then? Why Wu Rendi turned black-haired… and who was chasing him?”

Sun Desheng gave a strange smile and said:

“So you choose—will you tell me all that… or talk about Kong Dalong?”
