Hao Wenming was older now and no longer had the sharp edge he once possessed.

Ten years earlier, he would have already pulled out a baton and joined the fight himself.

Now, however, Director Hao was desperately holding onto Che Qianzi, using his own body to shield the others while repeatedly trying to persuade the young Taoist to let go.

Even Sun Desheng was startled by the scene.

As he walked toward Che Qianzi, he said:

“Who bullied my little brother? Look what they’ve done to him… They’ve even split one of his fingernails…”

After carefully examining Che Qianzi from head to toe, Sun finally managed to discover the injury to his fingernail.

Only after seeing Sun Desheng arrive did the expression on Che Qianzi’s face soften somewhat.

Even so, he still didn’t release the two men he was choking.

He merely glanced at Sun and said:

“Cut the act. I threw the first punch. This blind idiot called me a bastard without a father to raise me or a mother to teach me. If he dares curse me, I dare beat him.”

Meanwhile, Hao Wenming explained what had happened.

While Sun Desheng had been watching Gao Liang’s video in the Director’s office, Hao had brought Che Qianzi to the Second Investigation Room to introduce him to Xiong Wanyi and the others.

When Che Qianzi first came to the Bureau, he had met Xiong Wanyi once before.

Director Xiong—technically the deputy director—had assumed that Che Qianzi had gotten in through Sun Desheng’s connections.

Even though Hao Wenming personally brought him over, Xiong still didn’t give him a pleasant reception.

His words repeatedly implied that Che Qianzi and Sun Desheng were birds of a feather and that the young Taoist had entered through the back door.

Che Qianzi was hardly the type to swallow insults.

He immediately fired back.

The only reason he didn’t drag Xiong’s parents into the argument was out of respect for Hao Wenming and Sun Desheng.

Within the Second Investigation Room, Xiong Wanyi was accustomed to being the one giving orders.

When he heard Che Qianzi talk back, he flew into a rage and pointed a finger at him.

“You fatherless, motherless little bastard! You dare come to the Second Room looking for trouble? Don’t think that just because you’ve climbed onto Fatty Sun’s coattails—”

Before he could finish, his vision blurred.

Che Qianzi was suddenly standing right in front of him.

When it came to fighting, Che Qianzi relied on ruthless aggression and fearless brutality.

His rebellious nature had caused him to provoke both the local bully and even a fox-spirit den in his hometown.

For a period of time, he spent his days beating people and his nights beating fox spirits.

After a month or two, he had somehow beaten both humans and foxes into submission.

Before Xiong Wanyi could react, Che Qianzi jabbed two fingers toward his eyes while simultaneously driving a kick into his crotch.

Caught completely off guard, Xiong instinctively covered his eyes.

A moment later, agonizing pain exploded from below.

His body curled up like a shrimp as he collapsed to the floor.

But Che Qianzi wasn’t done.

Grabbing a nearby chair, he smashed it down on Xiong’s head.

Blood immediately burst out as the deputy director’s scalp split open.

The moment their boss was attacked, Mo, Ximen Lian, and the other investigators rushed forward.

But Che Qianzi had already prepared for exactly this.

After taking down Xiong Wanyi, he backed himself against a wall and used anything he could grab as a weapon.

Then he fought the entire room.

The investigators of the Second Room were highly skilled at dealing with demons and ghosts.

Unfortunately, they had nowhere near Che Qianzi’s experience when it came to street fighting.

Although they looked fierce, they were subconsciously holding back, afraid of accidentally killing someone and facing criminal charges.

Che Qianzi was the complete opposite.

Whenever he fought, he fought as if lives were on the line.

Every strike was aimed at incapacitating his opponent.

Every attack drew blood.

In the end, he single-handedly swept through the entire Second Investigation Room.

“Great Sage, you have to be fair about this!”

Taking advantage of the moment when Che Qianzi was speaking with Sun Desheng, Ximen Lian finally broke free.

After coughing several times, he pointed around the room.

“Look at what he did to our people!”

“Big Officer, do you even hear yourself?”

Fatty Sun sighed dramatically.

“You’ve got an entire room full of people, and all of you got beaten flat by my little brother. If I were you, I’d find a needle and sew my mouth shut. Not to brag, but if outsiders found out, you’d have to kill them to keep it secret.”

As he spoke, he slapped the hand Che Qianzi was using to choke Old Mo.

“Brother, you’ve already made a name for yourself in the Bureau. You’re famous now.

Let go first. If Old Mo actually dies, his relatives might try to pin it on you.

Relax. No matter how big the problem is inside the Bureau, your big brother will handle it.”

Then he turned to Hao Wenming.

“Chief Hao, hurry up and take my brother to the infirmary. An injury as serious as a cracked fingernail needs proper treatment. Tell them to use the best medicine.”

Only after hearing those words did Che Qianzi finally release the men.

Before the furious investigators of the Second Room could rush him again, Hao Wenming quickly dragged him away.

The moment they left, Ximen Lian angrily turned toward Sun Desheng.

“Sun Dasheng, you’re clearly taking sides. Just because he’s your brother, he gets to come into the Second Room and do whatever he wants? This isn’t over. Tell him to watch himself.”

“Big Officer, why can’t you recognize kindness when you see it?”

Fatty Sun sighed deeply.

“Can’t you tell I’m helping you people?

Not to brag, but have you all forgotten what happened in the Bureau a few months ago?

Che Qianzi’s surname is Che. Mine is Sun. To protect you people, I’ve practically married into the Che family already.”

The room stared at him blankly.

Sun continued:

“Three months ago, our great Director Wu beat somebody up.

When Director Wu makes a move, not a blade of grass survives. There should never be any survivors.

But guess what?

That guy spent three months in the hospital and lived.

Think about it.

If even Director Wu couldn’t kill him, wouldn’t killing all of you be as easy as playing around?”

The Second Investigation Room had been occupied with a strange case at the time and had rarely been around headquarters.

They had vaguely heard rumors but didn’t know the details.

Only now did they realize that the young man who had just demolished their entire department was the same person who had survived Wu Rendi’s attack.

Seeing that he had their attention, Sun pressed on.

“And that’s not all.

Later, Yang Xiao and Che Qianzi had a falling out.

Want to know what happened?

Old Yang from the Sixth Room was nearly beaten to death.

I was there. I saw it with my own eyes.

Just a little bit more, and he’d have died.

If somebody can almost kill Yang Xiao, do you really think all of you combined can afford to provoke him?”

The room fell silent.

At that moment, several investigators helped the blood-covered Xiong Wanyi back to his feet.

Holding his injured crotch and walking bow-legged, Xiong glared at Sun.

“So what you’re saying is we’re supposed to take the beating and forget about it?”

Sun Desheng grinned.

“Who said it’s over?

Tomorrow, buy some fruit and visit my little brother. I’ll talk to him nicely.

After all, Secretary Yang assigned both of us to your department.

From now on, we’re all stirring the same pot. We’ll be seeing each other every day.

Isn’t that right, Director Wu?”

Halfway through his sentence, Sun suddenly raised his voice.

Passing by the doorway were Wu Rendi and Shen La.

Since the days of the former director Qiu Bulao, Wu Rendi had never gotten along with the Second Investigation Room.

This was the first time anyone had seen him standing outside their door.

Immediately, everyone’s attention shifted.

Seeing the bruised and battered investigators, Wu Rendi spoke in a tone usually reserved for idiots.

Although he was facing Shen La, his words were directed at the room.

“Know the way to the crematorium? Tell them to line up and walk into the furnace themselves.”

Without another glance, the white-haired director continued walking away.

Shen La stepped inside instead.

After looking around the room, he said to Sun Desheng:

“I just saw Chief Hao. He told me the Second Room got wiped out. Director Wu was originally heading out, but he specifically came over to take a look. He said he wanted to congratulate you.”

“See?”

Fatty Sun laughed.

“Even Director Wu has accepted it.”

Then he patted Xiong Wanyi on the shoulder.

“Remember this. Don’t let outsiders find out how badly you embarrassed yourselves. Not to brag, but anyone who learns the truth should probably be silenced.”

With that, he left the Second Investigation Room together with Shen La.

Behind them, Xiong Wanyi and the others could only stare at each other in speechless disbelief.

Thus began the legend of Che Qianzi—a newcomer who, on his very first day at the Bureau of Paranormal Investigations, single-handedly defeated an entire investigation department.
