“Wang Yukai!”
Lu Baojing was startled.
Although she hated the things Wang Yukai had done, what she wanted was for him to face legal punishment—not to die like this.
Fortunately, the little golden snake didn’t actually intend to devour Wang Yukai or the ghost-suppressing talisman. After swallowing them and cleansing the evil aura inside its body, it spat them back out.
Covered in saliva and filthy from head to toe, Wang Yukai collapsed onto the ground. Beside him fell a ghost-suppressing banner, equally drenched in slime. His whole person seemed broken.
Who am I?
Where am I?
What am I doing?
Before Lu Baojing could step forward to check on him, everyone sensed something was wrong.
Why was the ground shaking?
An earthquake?!
What the hell!
How could there be an earthquake in a place like this?!
The little golden snake instantly returned to Ruan Yaoyao’s dantian. A fragment of information appeared in her mind, but before she could sort it out, instinct took over. She quickly grabbed everyone, had them hold hands, and rushed them out of the “small world.”
Yes—that thing was basically like the spatial ring that her eldest son, Ru Anzhi, had previously been bound to. It was essentially a man-made “space ring,” just on a much larger scale, disguised by someone as a so-called “trial space.”
What trial space? It was all fake.
The system was fake. The “residents” inside the trial space were fake.
Even “Miss Tiger,” who had borne Wang Yukai a child, was fake—and so was the child. Everything was nothing but ghosts and monsters.
Wang Yukai thought he had been living freely and happily in the “trial space,” but in reality, the ones he slept with were female ghosts, tasked with harvesting his yang energy.
The cultivation method given by the system was real—but it had concealed a fatal truth: all his hard work was ultimately for someone else’s benefit. While he harvested others, the system harvested him.
Otherwise, why would a proper trial space run for years at a time, with a time flow nearly identical to the real world?
The excuse that his level was too low to adjust the time difference, and that only after completing a task and upgrading the system could he do so—that was all a lie.
Everything in that space was already “pre-made.” The system simply didn’t want to waste energy on him.
After leaving and learning the truth, Wang Yukai went “mad,” shouting repeatedly:
“Impossible! The system wouldn’t lie to me! It is a system! It really is! It has money—lots of money…”
Ruan Yaoyao said, “Then why did it always make you use cash? Why not bank transfers? Isn’t it possible the cash it gave you was stolen?”
【Because it was cash, as long as it stole dirty money from shady sources, no one would report it.】
【If the amount was small, people would think they miscounted. If it was large, they’d assume they’d been robbed by criminals.】
【And cash isn’t convenient to carry. Wang Yukai couldn’t go around with a huge bag of money—it would draw too much attention. So this also limited how much he could spend.】
【Otherwise, why did he only rent cars instead of buying them?】
Ruan Zhihe, Liang Shishi, Ru Anzhi, and the others: “…”
You make a good point—we can’t even argue with that!
Still brainwashed, Wang Yukai insisted, “That’s because it was a disaster trial space! High-tech products were destroyed long ago. Everything had to start from scratch—electronic payments weren’t possible!”
Ruan Yaoyao replied, “Then explain why the cash the system gave you was so new—like it had just come straight out of a bank?”
Wang Yukai said, “The system printed it. Of course it’s new.”
Ruan Yaoyao: “…Fine. Let’s say the money was printed by the system. What about the residents inside? Didn’t you find them strange? Pale and gloomy, like vampires who’ve never seen sunlight. That’s supposed to be an extremely arid disaster zone—how are they all so pale?”
Wang Yukai said, “You said it yourself—it’s a disaster trial space. It’s scorching during the day, so they all come out at night. Of course they’re pale.”
Ruan Yaoyao was speechless.
No matter what question she raised, Wang Yukai had an answer. He had been brainwashed too thoroughly—there was no saving him.
【I originally wanted to get more information about that fake system from him, but judging by this, that’s not happening.】
【He truly believes it’s a system. Even when something doesn’t make sense, he rationalizes it himself.】
【Forget it. Leave professional matters to professionals. I’ll just wait for their results.】
Having failed to extract more information, Ruan Yaoyao handed control back to the national team.
As for herself, she looked at the new ring in her hand. After a moment of hesitation, she chose to hand it over.
【Sigh…】
【Such a massive space—you could build a city inside it. It’s a bit hard to part with.】
【But it’s not that useful to me. At most, I’d use it as a vacation space. In the hands of the national team, though, it’s different. Whether as a mobile warehouse, farmland, or a secret base—it would be incredibly valuable.】
【Let’s just consider it a good deed.】
Ruan Yaoyao handed the purified spatial ring to Ru Anzhi and asked him to turn it over to the state.
Ru Anzhi had long known about the ring, and so had his superiors—but no one had urged her. Everyone understood that she had discovered and refined it. If she chose to hand it over, that was commendable; if not, no one would force her.
After all, what lay inside the ring was beyond their current ability to handle.
But now things were different. Ruan Yaoyao had purified it.
Overcome with excitement, Ru Anzhi solemnly accepted the ring. “Mom, the country will definitely be grateful to you! Don’t worry—this will be used where it’s needed most and bring out its greatest value.”
A space the size of a city—just how vast was that?
Even if it were a desert, it would still be incredibly valuable.
Like she said, even as a mobile warehouse, it would be priceless.
Not to mention using it as a secret base—it would be like a mobile laboratory. Aside from a few key personnel, no one would ever be able to find it.
At this moment, Ru Anzhi didn’t take her mention of “farming” seriously. He assumed she was just reluctant to waste such a large space.
Coincidentally, the country had reforestation initiatives. With enough effort, turning the desert inside the ring into an oasis wasn’t impossible.
But after he submitted it, Minister Qin Shibo mysteriously told him: “Do you remember the item your mother asked you to hand over last time? You can farm inside it.”
Ru Anzhi froze. “That fast? You’ve already developed technology to grow crops in a desert?”
“You didn’t know?”
“Know what?”
“It’s not a desert inside—it’s an oasis. We don’t know how your mother did it, but she must have discovered some technique during the refining process and turned the desert into an oasis…”
