Yu Yang choked.
His relationship with Jiang Ying had never been something that could be brought into the light.
“Since you know who I am, then you should also know—I’m an idol. I can’t make my relationship public…”
“What do you mean by that?” Yu Xiangqiao was just about to assure him she wasn’t someone who gossiped, when her mother-in-law, Ruan Yaoyao, spoke up with an unhappy expression, “Are you trying to toy with Jiang Ying’s feelings?!”
Yu Xiangqiao: Wait, Mom, how did this turn into ‘toying with her’?
Aren’t we here to solve the problem?
Aren’t you just stirring things up now?
“I’m not!” Yu Yang said. “I’m serious about Jiang Ying.”
【Heh! Serious, sure. If Jiang Ying weren’t so pretty, you would’ve dumped her long ago and gone after someone else.】
【She’s just too naive—doesn’t know anything, still waiting for you back in her hometown.】
【Who would’ve thought?】
【You’ve actually cheated who knows how many times already.】
Yu Xiangqiao’s eyes widened: No way?! Someone who looks this bright and sunny could do something like that?
She suddenly felt like she couldn’t look at big celebrities the same way anymore.
She had heard the entertainment industry was messy, but…
She thought Yu Yang was different—after all, he was Jiang Ying’s boyfriend, the male lead in a yandere heroine novel.
Even if it ended in a bad ending.
“If you’re serious, shouldn’t you make it public and give her an explanation?” Ruan Yaoyao said. “You’ve been together not just a year or two—from college until now, that’s at least ten years. How many decades does a person have in life? If you don’t want to marry her, say it earlier. She’s beautiful and kind—there are plenty of men who would like her. She could find her true match sooner. Instead of being dragged along by you.”
【You’re unfaithful outside, yet you expect her to stay pure for you—on what grounds?】
【If it weren’t for her yandere tendencies, I’d have already chopped you up!】
【Serves you right for ending up killed by her in the end!】
No wonder after she imprisoned you, she kept suspecting you of flirting with everyone—turns out you had a history. Yu Xiangqiao suddenly stopped sympathizing with Yu Yang and instead pitied the innocent people dragged into this mess because of him.
They had been living their lives just fine, only to be pulled in because he “triggered” his yandere girlfriend.
Jiang Ying’s breakdown definitely had his share of responsibility.
“I…” Yu Yang’s defense sounded weak. “I’m an idol superstar. If I reveal my relationship, a lot of fans will leave. It’d be like an earthquake—my career would be ruined…”
“So in your heart, your career matters more than Jiang Ying. Whenever your career demands it, she has to step back for a lifetime—even be your hidden wife forever?” Ruan Yaoyao said. “If that’s the case, then I really need to advise Jiang Ying. With so many men out there, why choose someone who puts her last and doesn’t truly value her? If she’s going to find someone, it should be a man who is devoted to her, treats her like a treasure, and cherishes her in the palm of his hand.”
“Exactly, like my husband!” Yu Xiangqiao nodded.
“Of course. None of my four sons are as scummy as you.”
【Stable at home, flirting outside—do you think you’re some ancient emperor?】
【Dream on!】
【I can’t do anything about Xu Xiaoxiao, but if my sons dared to do this, I’d cripple them!】
The four Xu brothers all felt a chill run down their spines.
Yu Xiangqiao cheered inwardly: Mom, you’re amazing!
Being your daughter-in-law is the greatest blessing of my life!
As for whether her husband Xu Lianghan would agree—that wasn’t her concern.
As long as he didn’t cheat, everything would be fine.
That’s exactly what her mother-in-law was guarding against.
Yu Yang felt a bit guilty. “How am I scummy? I’ve been with Jiang Ying for years. You can ask her—I treat her very well. Aside from not making our relationship public, everything she eats and uses is provided by me. I’ve never shortchanged her materially.”
“Are you keeping a mistress?”
“Of course not. We’re in a normal relationship.”
“So you do know it’s a normal relationship. Then why are you restricting her like this, not giving her any normal life? Besides you, she does nothing all day, doesn’t even have a job. How is that any different from a caged canary? If one day you stop ‘keeping’ her, will that bird even be able to fly anymore?”
This was what truly made Ruan Yaoyao angry.
She had never understood why Jiang Ying had become yandere—until she saw Yu Yang.
Wasn’t the way he treated Jiang Ying exactly like raising a caged canary?
Give her money, make her obedient, let her wait anytime for his affection.
If he didn’t come, she would just quietly wait.
A life without any personal social circle—wasn’t that exactly a bird trapped in a cage?
Having once lived in such a cage herself, Ruan Yaoyao understood that suffocating feeling all too well. She had endured it, but Jiang Ying hadn’t—she sank deeper and deeper until she lost herself.
Ruan Yaoyao berated Yu Yang harshly, as if she were scolding her late husband—the man who always threw money at her but never addressed the real issues.
Yu Yang was scolded so badly he was nearly mentally shut down.
Yu Xiangqiao quietly stepped back, pulling the stunned Jiang Ying aside and gently comforting her. “Don’t be afraid. My mom is standing up for you. You’re such a good person, and yet he treated you like a caged bird…”
Ruan Yaoyao continued, “In a normal relationship, how could it be like this? Shouldn’t a healthy relationship encourage her to step out, work, make new friends, and build her own social circle?”
Yu Xiangqiao carefully added, “My mom’s right, isn’t she? We’ve known you for so long, but I don’t think we’ve ever heard you mention any friends.”
Jiang Ying said, “You are my only friends!”
Ruan Yaoyao: “Is she something shameful? Why must she be hidden? Don’t use being a celebrity as an excuse. Even if you can’t go public to fans, what about your parents? Your siblings? Your relatives and friends? Among all those people, is there not even one you trust?”
Yu Xiangqiao asked, “You haven’t even met his family, have you?”
Jiang Ying’s eyes turned red.
Yu Xiangqiao grew angry. “That’s too much! Even if he doesn’t go public, he should at least introduce you to his family. If he hasn’t done that, what kind of relationship is this? Isn’t he just stringing you along?”
…
Jiang Ying had been devastated upon realizing that Yu Yang didn’t love her as much as she thought—it felt like her whole world was collapsing.
But before that world could truly fall apart, Ruan Yaoyao and Yu Xiangqiao stepped in.
One scolded Yu Yang for her, the other comforted her.
And just like that, the collapsing sky was held up again.
It still hurt—but it no longer felt so hopeless.
The only thought in her mind was:
So there really are people in this world who care about me this much.
Even Yu Yang… came after them now.
